Serena’s smile instantly cracked.
The word “bastard” hit Isabella so hard she nearly stumbled, feeling as if she’d been stripped naked and paraded through the streets.
“I can’t be bothered to waste my breath on you. It would be beneath me,” Evelyn finished her tirade with a roll of her eyes and strode past Serena.
Isabella was trembling with anger. Serena, her face blank, gave her a push. “Let’s go.”
Evelyn had the Ravenshire family backing her, and her husband was a powerful figure. They couldn't afford to cross her.
With red-rimmed eyes, Isabella lowered her head and followed Serena into the elevator. Serena took a deep breath and pressed the button for the third floor.
Just as the elevator doors were slowly sliding shut, a chime sounded from inside the car.
The doors opened again, and Talia, dressed in a stylish, custom-tailored dress, walked in.
She clearly hadn’t expected to see Serena in the elevator. After a brief moment of surprise, she entered as if nothing was amiss.
Having learned her lesson, Serena didn't dare act carelessly. She forced a smile and pulled Isabella, preparing to exit.
Just as she was about to step out, Talia spoke first. “Mrs. Lexton, are you here to see Vivienne?”
Serena hadn’t expected the notoriously arrogant Talia to initiate a conversation. But then she remembered what Dorian had told her last night, and it all made sense.
She nodded. “Yes, I am.”
In the time it took to exchange those few words, the elevator doors slowly closed.
Neither of them spoke again after that. In a moment, they arrived at the third floor.
Serena politely let Talia exit first. Talia gave a slight nod. “Excuse me.” With that, she stepped out of the elevator.
That younger sister was usually even more arrogant than Evelyn. What was with her today?
Isabella didn't understand. She gently tugged on Serena’s hand, about to speak, but Serena shot her a look that silenced her.
It was a clear signal to shut up.
Vivienne smirked and blocked the contact before tapping into the freshman group chat.
The chat was filled with scattered posts of people showing off their food and activities, but almost every other conversation had a mention of @Isabella.
Vivienne stroked her chin. Since when was Isabella so popular?
She scrolled up, following the conversation thread. Her hand was starting to cramp by the time she finally found the reason.
It was a photo Isabella had “accidentally” not deleted. The picture perfectly captured Caspian and Serena sitting in the solarium, having tea.
Vivienne looked at the hopelessly blurred metal box in the photo and muttered to herself, “I knew it. I shouldn’t have gone easy on you back then.”
I already gave you a way out. Why couldn’t you just learn to be satisfied?
“Vivienne?”
Just then, her door was pushed open from the outside. Serena walked in with a smile, pulling Isabella along with her.
