As she spoke, a fire burned in her eyes, her gaze so intense it felt like it could incinerate him.
Alaric looked into those eyes, and his focus wavered for a moment.
Vivienne looked at him with disdain. "Why are you still standing here? Haven't you been scolded enough?"
Alaric knew that pressing further would only bring more humiliation. After a moment of silence, he turned to leave.
"Wait." Vivienne suddenly remembered something and called him back.
Alaric’s normally sharp mind stalled for a second, and he came to a dead stop.
Wesley silently lowered his hand, his sunglasses hiding the shock in his eyes.
"Um..." Vivienne's eyes darted around as she tactically scratched her head. "It's not that I can't tell you anything. About those things I said to you back at Alderwick... they weren't actually my idea. My mom taught me to say them."
Alaric was so angry he laughed, turning back to look at her.
Vivienne immediately put on an innocent face. "It's true. I'm not just saying this to make you hate my mom and stop her from returning to Obsidian Estate. I'm telling the truth. I'm just a kid, as pure as can be. How could I say things like that without an adult teaching me? Think about it."
Alaric was speechless.
*Knock, knock, knock—*
A knock came from the door. Only then did Vivienne realize Wesley was blocking the entrance like a wall.
Wesley silently took a step back and opened the door.
"Alaric, Grandpa is looking for you." Cyril stood outside, a smile playing on his lips. Sensing the tense atmosphere in the room, he looked apologetic. "Oh, sorry. Am I interrupting?"
Alaric glanced at Cyril and was about to leave when the girl behind him called out again.
"Hey! I almost forgot. There's one more thing I can tell you."
Cyril had long known there was another side to her beneath the innocent, fragile mask. He wasn't surprised and simply asked, "You don't like Alaric?"
Vivienne frowned, her rebellious streak showing. "I don't. But that doesn't mean I like you either."
Cyril didn't seem to mind. He leaned over, placing one hand on the edge of the bed, getting closer but maintaining a perfect distance. "What about Julian?"
Vivienne didn't understand why Cyril was asking this and became wary. "What about him?"
Cyril's hand brushed along the edge of the bed before he straightened up. "It seems you like him the most."
Vivienne rolled her eyes.
Unfazed, Cyril gave her a gentle look and walked out of the room.
Vivienne was baffled. What was that two-faced schemer even doing here?
