“Apologize to me?”
As expected, Bianca reacted immediately, but her past experiences with Vivienne had left her wary. She turned, her expression guarded. “What are you trying to pull now?”
Vivienne shook her head, her tone sincere. “Nothing. The reason I pushed you is because Isabella told me you were the one who pushed her into the pond. She begged me to get revenge for her, and I couldn’t say no.”
The atmosphere suddenly tensed.
Bianca exploded with rage. “Isabella is lying! She fell in by herself, it had nothing to do with me!”
Talia raised a hand to silence Bianca, her eyes studying Vivienne. “So, you pushed Bianca to get revenge for Isabella?”
Vivienne had already rehearsed her lines and answered without hesitation. “Yes. Isabella said Bianca is always bullying her and that she’s scared. My mom always says that as the older sister, I have to protect the younger one. I thought they had a point, so I pushed Bianca when she was going upstairs. I’m sorry, Bianca.”
Bianca finally processed what she was hearing and stared at Vivienne as if she were an idiot. “Are you out of your mind? Isabella is a phony and your mother is two-faced. No one in their right mind would believe them. You’re the only moron in your family! Are you that stupid? They’re playing you for a fool, and you’re actually helping them do it.”
Vivienne’s lips twitched. Bianca really did have a short fuse.
Talia raised her hand to stop Bianca again, her voice calm. “Did you hear what my daughter said?”
Vivienne nodded, remaining impassive. “I heard.”
To any observer, it looked as though she was unwilling to admit her mother and sister were wrong, but was also afraid of starting another argument by contradicting Bianca. So she simply acknowledged that she had heard.
Bianca had never met someone so dense. With her hands on her hips, she rolled her eyes, her insults becoming muddled.
Talia seemed to realize that the girl before her wasn't very bright. Besides, she had done a lot of thinking since leaving Northwing Court. The old master must have his reasons for protecting this girl so fiercely, and as his children, it wasn't worth upsetting him over such a trivial matter.
With that in mind, Talia’s expression softened slightly. “You just said you came here to apologize?”
Vivienne looked up at Talia and nodded. “Yes. Grandpa said that if Bianca doesn’t forgive me, he’ll kick my mother and me out of Obsidian Estate. My mother said we’ll die if we leave Obsidian Estate, so she told me to get down on my knees and beg for her forgiveness, and maybe she’ll think about it.”
Talia frowned. What kind of person taught their daughter to act that way?
Bianca, still furious, sneered. “Fine. You love listening to your mother so much, right? Then kneel and bow your head to me three times, and I’ll forgive you immediately.”
Vivienne glanced at Talia and Tessa.
Bianca’s brow furrowed as she yelled, “What are you looking at? If you’re going to apologize, then show some sincerity! If you can’t do it, then get out!”
Vivienne turned to Talia. “Thank you, Ms. Talia.”
Talia calmly let go of her hand, her feelings complicated. “You can go back now. I’ll tell the old master exactly what happened at Echostone House later. This matter is now closed. But remember, I will not allow this to happen a second time.”
Vivienne nodded, gave Bianca one last look, and turned to leave the room.
Watching Vivienne’s back, Bianca muttered, “Obsidian Estate finally has someone dumber than me.”
Talia closed her eyes, utterly exasperated. “Bianca, isn’t there something else you need to do?”
Bianca looked sheepish, darting a glance toward Tessa before quickly looking away.
Talia said, “Vivienne may not be bright, but at least she listens to her mother. Think about the price of her apology. And what about yours? Bianca, do you really want to be outdone in every way by someone you despise?”
Bianca’s mind went blank. For some reason, the image of Vivienne kneeling flashed in her mind. After a long silence, she finally turned to Tessa and bowed.
“I’m sorry.”
