With Alaric, Talia, and Bianca serving as her ultimate shield, Vivienne enjoyed the most relaxing day of school she had experienced since enrolling.
That afternoon, Alaric was already waiting in the parking lot. Wesley stepped out of the car, his face a mask of deadpan resignation, and opened the door. "Princess, please get in."
The flawless execution of the routine drew envious shrieks from the girls lingering nearby.
Mina had dragged Sophia all the way to the parking lot, desperate to see if the 'fairy' from yesterday was Vivienne's brother. Seeing it wasn't him, she immediately rolled her eyes.
"What a show-off. Like she's the only one with a brother."
Sophia rubbed her chin thoughtfully. "To be fair, her brother is definitely much better looking than average."
Mina frowned. Honestly, her own biological brother was pretty embarrassing to look at—heavy-set and darkly tanned.
But Mina refused to admit defeat. She huffed indignantly, "My brother might not be a model, but Preston is gorgeous! He's the perfect charming rogue. My mom says the line of families in Stormhollow trying to arrange a marriage with him is out the door. They're practically breaking down the gates."
Sophia sighed in exasperation. "Mina, being a 'charming rogue' isn't exactly a compliment."
"Oh, and your brother is some kind of saint?" Mina shot back. "He can fool everyone else, but I'll never forget how he treats women. The only thing he has going for him is his face."
Sophia fell silent, unsure of how to respond.
Mina glanced at her, her tough exterior cracking just a bit. "Alright, fine. Why are you getting upset? Relax, I'm not going to run my mouth about that incident."
The moment Vivienne had grabbed her hand and taught her how to rack the slide of that gun, she had given Bianca the most unparalleled, precious gift in existence. Bianca couldn't explain it to anyone, but she felt it in her bones.
In return, Bianca would do anything Vivienne asked. In Bianca's eyes, the girl who was willing to risk her life for her, the girl who had pulled her into the light, deserved the absolute best this world had to offer.
Mina's pathetic attempt to drive a wedge between them was hilariously misguided.
Bianca just shrugged. "Yeah, Vivi is gorgeous, which is why everyone loves her! I love her too. If she ignores me, I don't care. If she sells me out, I don't care. I am perfectly happy following her around like a puppy. So what? Are you jealous? Do you have a friend like that? No, you don't! Because you're a bitter, toxic, self-obsessed nightmare, and anyone who tries to be your friend is cursed for life!"
Having delivered that crushing blow, Bianca immediately turned to Sophia. "I'm not just talking trash here. Don't be an idiot and trust a snake like her, or you'll be the one getting sold out and thanking her for it."
