Exhausted from the chaotic day, Vivienne finally collapsed onto her plush mattress.
A cool breeze drifted in from the balcony, gently rustling the curtains. In the corner of her room, the shadows of the swaying branches danced across a blank canvas on her easel.
After a moment of thought, Vivienne rolled out of bed and opened her art portfolio. She pulled out a ruined sketch and ran her fingers over the drawn plaster base until she felt a tiny, hard lump. With a quick flick of her fingernail, she pried it out.
It was the memory card she had found in Studio Three.
She knew someone would try to test her. When Director Houghton showed up at the studio again, she immediately figured out his true motive. Throwing her drawing board at him had been a calculated move to completely shatter his suspicions.
She had to admit, being this young was the perfect cover. In a modern society that didn't believe in the supernatural, her enemies would always underestimate her malice.
Vivienne carried the tiny memory card to her desk. She didn't hesitate. She grabbed a card reader, plugged it into her laptop, and booted it up.
The card contained two folders. One was labeled "Roster," and the other was completely unnamed.
Vivienne opened the Roster first. It only contained two images. The first was a blurry, poorly lit photograph of a physical list containing over fifty phone numbers. It was obviously taken in secret.
She zoomed in and realized there were no actual names attached to the numbers—only code names.
They were ranked: Silver Members, Gold Members, and Diamond Members.
Most were Silver, a handful were Gold, and only four had reached Diamond status.
Vivienne studied the list for a moment before clicking on the second image. It was a screenshot of a text message.
[Tonight, 7:00 PM. Building 9, Westvale District, Merriton City.]
Like the list, there was no name attached to the sender, just a random number. She checked the timestamp. It was from about six months ago.
No context. No solid leads.
She backed out and clicked on the second, unnamed folder, expecting another puzzle to solve. But the moment she saw its contents, her blood ran cold.
The shock hit her like a ten-thousand-volt electric strike. Her brain completely short-circuited.
The folder was packed with videos. Vile, disgusting, obscene videos. If she didn't know better, she would have assumed she accidentally clicked onto a dark web porn site.
There were over a thousand files. Vivienne numbly scrolled through the thumbnails, her eyes scanning the frozen frames.
Suddenly, her finger froze on the mouse.
The Sword of Valor?
