Glowing green text slowly etched itself into her mind.
[Would you like to bind this quest?]
Vivienne slowly pulled her chair back to the desk and tapped her fingers against the wood.
[Would you like to bind this quest?]
She looked up, her gaze icy and resolute. "Reject."
[Ding—]
[Quest erased. Reward cleared.]
She turned back to her laptop screen, hesitated for a split second, and then grabbed her phone to save the unknown number from the text message screenshot.
Wolfram Manor.
Wesley Crain stood perfectly straight outside the bathroom door, wearing a pair of dark sunglasses. The harsh sounds of Alaric throwing up echoed from inside.
A few minutes later, the glass door slid open, and the pale, exhausted teenager walked out.
Wesley immediately handed him a fresh towel. "Wipe your mouth, Boss."
Alaric had changed into fresh, casual clothes. He took the towel and wiped his face. "To Northwing Court."
Wesley peeked at Alaric from behind his dark lenses and quietly fell into step behind him.
Just as they reached Northwing Court, they bumped into Cyril and Lennox walking out.
Cyril glanced up, meeting Alaric's eyes. His gaze was gentle and composed. "Alaric."
Alaric gave a faint nod.
"Looking for Grandpa too?" Cyril asked smoothly. "I won't hold you up then." He offered a polite smile, and the two brothers brushed past each other.
The moment Alaric stepped into the courtyard, Cedric hurried over from the corridor.
"Mr. Alaric, Mr. Ravenshire is in the sunroom."
Alaric nodded. He stared at the sunroom for a long moment before finally stepping forward.
Caspian saw right through him. "So, you still don't think you made a mistake?"
Alaric almost nodded, but after a second of deliberation, he shook his head. "But you think I made a mistake."
Caspian couldn't help but chuckle, his eyes softening with deep affection. "What is that supposed to mean? Are you saying that even though you believe you're right, you trust my judgment enough to admit you're wrong just because I said so? So you came here to ask me where you messed up?"
Alaric shook his head again. "No. I know exactly why you think I was wrong."
"Enlighten me."
"You think I'm too cold-blooded toward my own family. That my logic makes me completely detached from basic human empathy."
Caspian shook his head slowly. "No. That's not what I think at all."
Alaric froze. He had been absolutely certain of his answer, and his grandfather had just effortlessly shot it down.
He stared at Caspian in confusion.
Caspian looked at him with a gaze that was both gentle and incredibly firm. "I think you are entirely too cold-blooded toward yourself."
