Unable to sit still and wait for the fallout, Aurelia sprinted toward the front hall.
She turned a corner and spotted Vivienne and Bianca scaling the estate's massive brick wall. "What are you two doing?!" she shrieked.
Startled by the sudden noise, Vivienne and Bianca nearly tumbled off the ledge.
"Are you trying to wake the dead? Do you want us to break our necks?!" Bianca hissed fiercely, keeping her voice low.
Aurelia knew she was being loud, but she stood her ground, looking up at them. "Why are you climbing the wall when there's a perfectly good gate?"
Bianca rolled her eyes. "None of your business."
Aurelia stared at them, her expression hardening. "Don't tell me you're plotting something else. The Montclairs are already here demanding answers. If you don't want to cause Grandpa any more stress, you need to go in there and apologize properly."
"You're out of your mind. If you want to grovel, go do it yourself. Leave us out of it," Bianca snapped.
Knowing it was useless to argue with Bianca, Aurelia shifted her focus to Vivienne. "You're the main reason this happened. Grandpa treats you so well, and this is how you repay him?"
Vivienne let out a dry laugh. "You can't even convince Bianca to listen to you. What makes you think you can control me?"
"You!" Aurelia was shocked by their sheer stubbornness. Refusing to back down, she grabbed the wooden ladder leaning against the wall. "Fine! If you won't listen, I'm going to follow you. I won't let you do anything bad!" Without a second thought, she started climbing.
Bianca's temper flared. She leaned close to Vivienne. "What do we do? Should I kick her down?"
Vivienne gave her a flat look. "And what if she dies?"
Bianca bit her lip. "Put it on my tab."
Despite the threat, neither of them made a move as Aurelia clumsily hauled herself toward the top of the wall.
Suddenly, a voice echoed from the other side of the brick barrier. Footsteps approached on the grass.
"I thought I heard something over here."
Vivienne froze. A sharp, predatory glint flashed in her eyes. She watched Aurelia struggle up the final few rungs. After a second of calculated silence, Vivienne suddenly reached her hand out. "Grab on."
Aurelia blinked in surprise. Because she never assumed the worst in people, she didn't hesitate to grab Vivienne's outstretched hand.
By the time Vivienne hauled her up onto the top of the wall, the boy was already standing on the grass right below them.
