Aurelia gifted a neck massager, and Bianca gifted a lower-back massager, which had Julian dying of laughter. "Alaric, the girls are clearly very concerned about your physical health."
"Thank you," Alaric replied, his face entirely deadpan as he accepted the gifts.
"Hey kid, what did you bring?" Julian asked, looking at Vivienne with avid curiosity.
Vivienne silently presented her ragged yellow paper.
Lara covered her mouth to hide a mocking giggle. "What a coincidence. Did you get yours at Myriad Blessings Monastery too?"
The gold-threaded amulets from Myriad Blessings Monastery were incredibly popular among the elite. Since there was no set price and it was entirely based on 'donation,' the actual cost ended up being astronomically high.
Lara knew full well that Vivienne's scrap of paper was not an authentic gold amulet. She was just rubbing it in.
Vivienne shook her head. "I drew it myself."
"Ha!" Lara practically snorted. "You—"
"Thank you." Alaric plucked the yellow paper from Vivienne's hand, handing both it and Lara's expensive gold amulet directly to Wesley.
A gold amulet or a crude paper one made absolutely no difference to him.
Lara's expression tightened. She shot Vivienne a covert glare before turning toward the tearoom.
"Alaric, we're going out to play."
Bianca tugged on Vivienne's arm, shooting her a pointed look. Vivienne waved at the remaining four boys. "See ya."
The four of them just stared back in silence.

The second they were out of the main hall, Bianca dragged her aside. "You have to watch your back with Lara today. She's a piece of work. A million times worse than Aurelia."
Vivienne glanced back at the hall. Lara was currently clinging to Evelyn's arm, whispering conspiratorially.
"Vivienne, are you even listening to me?"
