She didn't dare to be too presumptuous and chose a seat at an angle. Although the position was somewhat out of the way, Serena was content just to be sitting in the same room with the esteemed members of the Ravenshire family.
Several of the younger family members remained standing. Vivienne tucked her gray wolf plushie under one arm, holding a porcelain dish in one hand and eating with the other.
“Such a show-off,” Bianca muttered, suddenly annoyed with Vivienne again.
Vivienne casually took a pastry and offered it to her. “Here, have one.”
Bianca looked disgusted and was about to refuse, but for some reason, she opened her mouth and took a bite of the pastry.
She was at a loss for words.
From the way they were interacting, anyone would think they were the best of friends. Nearby, Isabella watched them, her eyes red with anger.
On the other side of the room, the old man held his teacup, his eyes half-closed. “Dorian, you can announce it.”
Dorian nodded and glanced back at Cyril. “Cyril, come here.”
Only then did everyone notice the young man standing behind Cedric.
Cyril stepped forward.
Bianca was so shocked she spat out her pastry. “Oh my god! He’s gorgeous!”
Vivienne lowered her head to wipe the crumbs from her face. Looking at the broken bits on her plate, she suddenly lost her appetite.
Dorian said, “Everyone, let me introduce you. This is my son, Cyril.”
The announcement shocked everyone. Lucian was so startled he jumped right off his chair. “Dorian, what kind of joke is this?”
Everyone present was sharp. For Dorian to suddenly have a son meant he was almost certainly illegitimate.
“What’s all the fuss about?” the old man tapped his cane on the floor.
Everyone snapped back to reality. Amid their shock, they all turned their gazes to Caspian. Even though Dorian’s career was flourishing, something like this still depended on the old man’s attitude.
Following the order of seniority, they started with Leander from the second branch.
With Caspian presiding, no one dared to show their true feelings, even if they had them. They were all intelligent people. The fact that the old man had gathered everyone and revealed this secret meant that Cyril had already been accepted by the family. This introduction was less for Cyril’s sake and more of a reminder to them: once they accepted the tea, they had to assume the responsibilities of uncles and aunts.
Cedric handed over a cup and made the introduction. “This is Mr. Leander Ravenshire.”
Cyril knelt, took the tea, and offered it. “Uncle Leander, please have some tea.”
“Of course.”
Leander smiled and nodded, about to take it, when a harsh shout echoed through the hall.
“What right does a common bastard have to enter the Ravenshire family home?!”
Vivienne unhurriedly brushed the crumbs off her plate and popped a clean pastry into her mouth.
She just kept eating…
