Talia hadn't seen her two brothers in a long time. After finishing the soup, they arranged to go back to Echostone House to catch up. But just as they stepped out of the dining room, they saw Tessa hurrying in from the backyard.
Tessa was a long-time servant of the Ravenshire family and rarely acted so improperly. Talia's first thought was that something had happened to Bianca.
She hurried forward to steady Tessa. "Don't rush, speak slowly."
Tessa took a deep breath and whispered a few words in Talia's ear. Talia's expression changed instantly, and she turned to look back at the dining room.
At that exact moment, Serena emerged, weakly steadying herself against the wooden doorframe. It was no exaggeration to say that the meal had nearly killed her. Feeling half-dead, Serena had no energy to curry favor with the Ravenshires. All she wanted was to go back to Vellmont Lodge and lie down. But as soon as she stepped out of the dining room, she felt a piercing gaze on her.
Serena looked up and met Talia's eyes. She froze, swallowed hard, and forced a smile. "Is something wrong?"
Talia gave Serena a cold, appraising look from head to toe. "Mrs. Lexton certainly raised a fine daughter." With that, her gaze turned glacial, and she exited the parlor.
Lucian and Benedict guessed that something had happened with Bianca. They cast a questioning glance at Serena before following Talia to Echostone House.
Serena's smile froze on her face. Her fingertips dug into the doorframe. Isabella wouldn't be so thoughtless. It had to be that damn girl causing trouble for her again.
A maid from the dining room glanced at Serena and approached with a smile. "Mrs. Lexton, be careful with your hands."
Serena's ferocious expression vanished in an instant, replaced by a composed and gentle demeanor. Before she could speak, the maid added, "This is priceless, centuries-old golden cedar. If you damage it, we certainly can't afford to replace it."
Serena's mouth twitched, and she forced a strained smile.

In the courtyard of Northwing Court.
Caspian stared at his cup, his thoughts drifting far away.
After getting Cyril's promise last night, he had immediately gone to the ancestral hall.
The Montclair family's smooth political rise in recent years had to be the work of an expert strategist. Now, with the presidential election in its final stages, the Montclairs' third son was a strong contender. For Victoria to commit arson and murder at such a critical time was highly illogical.
But upon closer inspection, the strangeness became clear. The officials who were forced to step down because of the arson case were almost all arch-rivals of the Montclair family. As soon as the news broke, the third Montclair son's approval ratings soared far above his political opponents.
For years, although the Ravenshire and Montclair families were connected by marriage, their political paths had diverged. Victoria had clearly been manipulated by the Montclairs, using a personal grudge as a pretext to tie the Ravenshire and Montclair families to the same sinking ship. Cyril was the key. With the leverage of an illegitimate son, Dorian and the entire Ravenshire family would forever be under their control.
With just a little prompting from Caspian, Dorian had immediately understood the stakes. Fortunately, Dorian wasn't a complete fool; he knew to cut his losses.
