The group followed Caspian out of the waiting room, leaving only Dorian and Victoria to stare at each other.
With Caspian gone, Victoria's carefully maintained facade crumbled.
"Dorian, when are you going to bring our son home?"
Dorian's face darkened. This was the critical stage of his campaign for Council Speaker. Between the kidnappings and the international fallout, he had zero time to worry about Jaxen.
Seeing his silence, Victoria grabbed his sleeve. "Have you thought about this? If the old man really does what Alaric suggested, do you think the Beaufort family will just swallow it? Jaxen will be in danger! You can't just abandon our child!"
Dorian violently shook off her hand, his gaze as venomous as a viper's. "Let me ask you something. Why did Balthazar suddenly kidnap Cyril and Vivienne? Was this your doing?"
Victoria's eyes flickered, but she couldn't afford to show weakness now. "Don't spit baseless accusations at me! I gave you the guest list, didn't I? How the hell should I know why Balthazar lost his mind?"
Dorian closed his eyes briefly, straightening his collar. "We will discuss this after I speak with Cyril."

In the hospital corridor.
Alaric and Julian walked on either side of Caspian. One was calm and composed; the other was clearly miles away.
"Julian."
Caspian called out, but Julian remained lost in thought. Sensing something off, Caspian stopped and looked at him. "What's wrong?"
Julian snapped back to reality. "Grandpa? What is it?"
"Given the time, your Aunt Talia and Bianca should be arriving in Merriton City soon. Go pick them up."
Julian scowled. "Aunt Talia is a grown woman. It's not like she'll get lost. I'm not going."
Caspian glared, raising his cane as if to strike him. "Are you asking for a beating? I said go, so go."
Looking thoroughly put out, Julian covered his backside and dodged backward. "Fine, fine, I'm going."
"Hurry up."
Julian jogged a few steps before suddenly turning back. "Alaric, don't you dare go see Vivi behind my back. I get to see her first."
Alaric didn't respond.
Caspian waved his hand dismissively. "Don't worry, he won't beat me to it. Grandpa is always first."
Julian looked unconvinced, but knowing he couldn't out-stubborn the old man even if he stayed, he reluctantly nodded. "Fine, but you better not lie to me, Grandpa! You're first, I'm second."
"H-hello."
Not knowing how to address Caspian, the young nurse bowed a full ninety degrees, clutching the vase tightly.
Caspian hadn't expected to terrify the poor girl. He cleared his throat and dialed back his imposing aura.
"What's going on? Didn't they say someone needs to be stationed by the bed at all times? Where did you go?"
"No! Sir, you misunderstand!" The nurse was terrified Caspian would get her fired for negligence. She quickly explained, "A really handsome boy came to visit just now. He said this young lady loves flowers, so he told me to go pick some fresh ones for her bedside. He said she'd be happy when she wakes up. I... I just went to get the flowers."
"A really handsome boy?" Caspian couldn't bring himself to be angry at her earnest face. He looked at Alaric. "Could it be Cyril?"
The only people allowed on this floor were medical staff and the Ravenshires. It couldn't have been anyone else.
Alaric remained expressionless, his gaze dropping to the flowers in the nurse's arms.
Worried she hadn't explained herself properly, the nurse added in a small voice, "I don't just listen to anyone. The boy is in the room next door. He came in a wheelchair. I only felt comfortable leaving because I knew you were all family. He's so thoughtful. He even helped give the young lady some water. He seemed like such a gentle person."
Caspian smiled and nodded. "I understand, young lady. It's not your fault. We are indeed family."
He turned to Alaric. "Hahaha, all that rushing around, and we're still in second place!"
