Chaos Girl Rewrites the Script novel Chapter 398

A flash of realization hit Dorian. It finally clicked.

It was true. Even though Balthazar was dead and the two children had survived, the old man hadn't seemed the least bit anxious to demand an immediate explanation.

Dorian suddenly recalled the piercing look Caspian had given him right before he left the waiting room. It was enough to bring him out in a cold sweat.

"Cyril, your grandfather has given you the power to decide."

Cyril was the only conscious witness. If he pointed the finger at Victoria, she wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

"Cyril..."

Cyril lowered his eyes to the fruit knife in his hand, a faint, graceful curve touching his lips. "Don't worry, Dad. I will keep Aunt Victoria's secret. You and she are bound together as husband and wife. A scandal for her is a scandal for you, and you're at the most critical point in your career. Even if it's just for your sake, I will forgive her."

Dorian was at a total loss for words.

He never imagined this boy would swallow such monumental grief and betrayal for his sake. Compared to Cyril's flawless maturity, Jaxen felt like a curse dragged out of the trash.

The scales in Dorian's heart tipped definitively. "Cyril, I owe you a massive favor for this. I will remember it. And don't worry—your aunt will never dare make things difficult for you again."

In the past, to keep up appearances, Dorian had forced Cyril to call Victoria "Mother." But today, Dorian's use of "your aunt" proved his stance had shifted entirely.

The gentle warmth in Cyril's eyes deepened. "Dad, there's one more thing you have to be careful about. Grandpa already suspects Aunt Victoria of colluding with the Beaufort family. Thankfully, he doesn't suspect you yet. But if you don't find a way to intervene, this might eventually drag you down with her. You know how Grandpa deals with people who betray the family. He never shows mercy."

Dorian was a despicable, self-serving man. Cyril was simply planting a thorn in that dark heart, letting husband and wife tear each other apart.

Death was too easy a revenge. He wanted them to suffer a living hell.

Dorian weighed the warning carefully, slowly standing up. "I understand. Get some rest, Cyril. I'll come back and check on you later."

Cyril nodded, but just as the man turned to leave, he called out softly, "Dad."

Dorian stopped and looked back.

Cyril looked up at him, his pale face a portrait of vulnerable exhaustion. "We're in Merriton City right now. Can I... can I go see my mom?"

Dorian stared at him, briefly lost in thought.

To keep the scandal buried, Dorian hadn't allowed Cyril to return and pay his respects to his mother once in the three years since he'd joined the Ravenshires.

Seeing Dorian hesitate, Cyril added quietly, "I dreamt about her last night."

Cyril glanced at them without a shred of interest.

Lennox set the flowers down. Noticing Cyril was still holding the apple and the knife, he asked helpfully, "Sir, would you like me to bring that to Miss Lexton for you?"

"No need."

Cyril stared lovingly at the sharp edge of the blade. He had sat there, casually holding the knife through a ten-minute conversation, and Dorian hadn't been the least bit defensive. It seemed he had successfully dismantled Dorian's guard.

"Sir." Lennox bowed slightly and gently took the knife from his hand, entirely out of consideration. "It's dangerous. You might accidentally hurt yourself."

The relaxed lines of Cyril's face abruptly went slack.

"Let's not play with dangerous toys in bed. What if someone gets hurt?"

...

He lowered his eyes and took a bite of the apple in his hand.

It was so sour. But somehow, a little sweet.
