Alaric returned to Wolfram Manor.
The estate was exquisitely elegant, radiating a sense of refined tranquility from every corner.
Alaric walked straight through the courtyard, passing the Lotus Pond without a sideways glance, and stepped into his study.
The corridor outside his study seamlessly connected to the pond, offering a perfect view of the autumn waters and the vibrant koi fish.
A cluster of Banana Palms had been planted near the water's edge. When it rained, the sound of water hitting the broad leaves was like pearls dropping onto a jade plate. On sunny days, the lush green foliage framed the window, creating a view so peaceful one could sit and admire it all day.
But right now, Alaric couldn't find a shred of peace. Every time Vivienne provoked him, it triggered varying degrees of a pounding headache.
Wesley watched him with profound pity. His boss was a perfectly reasonable man, yet he was cursed to deal with an absolute lunatic.
"Boss, if Miss Lexton refuses to cooperate, Victoria's faction might get away with it again."
Alaric pinched the bridge of his nose.
"I just don't get it. Miss Lexton has a fiery sense of justice. Why would she cover for them after something like this? There has to be some hidden secret here."
Alaric's fingers stalled.
Wesley carefully stroked the small turtle in his pocket, analyzing the situation out loud.
"Could it be... Miss Lexton switched sides and joined Victoria's faction just like her mother? No, that can't be right! She kicked her own mother out. After secretly investigating for the past three years, I can say with certainty that those two are not on the same side."
"Aside from Talia, Miss Lexton is equally hostile to everyone. She offends people left and right. That doesn't exactly scream 'team player.'"
"Wait! No, she isn't equally hostile. Compared to Julian and Cyril, Miss Lexton clearly hates you the most, Boss."
"..."
Wesley was about to continue his deductive reasoning when Alaric cut him off flatly.
"Shut up and get out."
Wesley looked slightly disappointed, but the thought of having free time to play with the turtle instantly brought a bounce back to his step.
The study settled back into silence.
"What a cold-blooded child. Not a single tear for his dead parents?"
"I heard the Ravenshire heir was brilliant and calculating, but I never expected him to be this heartless toward his own flesh and blood."
"Surely not. He's just a boy. Maybe the trauma caused some sort of shock?"
"Alaric..."
The memory snapped shut. Alaric turned his head as Caspian walked into the room, leaning heavily on his cane and smiling.
"Grandpa."
Alaric immediately stood up to offer him the main seat.
Caspian studied his grandson's face for a moment before gently patting his shoulder. "I heard Vivienne woke up?"
Alaric nodded. "Yes. It seems she's finally caught up on her sleep."
Caspian couldn't hold back a laugh, shaking his head. "Did that little girl give you a hard time again?"
