Vivienne’s honesty caught the three of them completely off guard.
Lucian shot Benedict a look. Benedict slapped his own forehead and approached with an affable smile. “Your name is Vivienne, right? Come on, tell me what you heard.”
Vivienne blinked her large, innocent eyes. “I heard everything.”
“Everything?” Benedict froze and looked back at Lucian. What now? Were they supposed to silence her permanently?
Lucian didn’t know what to say and couldn’t be bothered to deal with him.
Benedict looked conflicted. When he turned back, his expression was terrifyingly dark. He ran the family’s underworld operations, and his underlings were all vicious thugs. Whenever Benedict made that face, even those hardened criminals would tremble in fear.
“Do you know how I usually make people keep their mouths shut?”
Vivienne’s eyes widened. She studied Benedict’s demonic face with fascination, not fear. Instead of her pupils constricting in terror like others, she looked excited. “I don’t know. Are you going to teach me, Uncle?”
The ferocity in Benedict’s eyes cracked for a second. He frowned and let out a hiss. “You’re an interesting one. The last person who smiled at this face of mine was my own daughter, Aurelia.” He patted his knees and stood up, glancing at Lucian. “Forget it. Why bother with a kid?”
Lucian couldn’t help but give Vivienne a second look. If he remembered correctly, she had been just as bold and reckless in front of their father in the pavilion. Was it naivete? Or was it calculation?
Talia crossed her arms, sizing Vivienne up with a cold tone. “What are you doing here?”
Vivienne smiled and replied, “I just came from Grandpa’s, and I wanted to see Bianca.” She said it so casually, as if someone else had been the one fighting and pulling hair with Bianca in the side hall just moments ago.
Talia was silent for a moment, then pointed toward the main hall. “She’s still in there throwing a tantrum. You can go in.”
In her past life, after their argument, she had returned to Vellmont Lodge only to be berated by Serena for being brainless. She had been just as hurt and scared then. She told Serena she had only fought with Bianca to protect her sister, and she begged Isabella to help her plead her case. But Isabella had just said pitifully, “Vivienne, you were too impulsive.”
Vivienne lowered her gaze, a small, deliberately cheerful smile on her lips. “Oh, are you crying?”
Bianca, deep in her sorrow, shot up at the sound of that voice. She rushed forward and grabbed Vivienne’s collar, seething with anger. “You troublemaker, you still dare to show your face?”
Vivienne stared at her tear-stained face. “I didn’t cause you trouble. I’m helping you.”
“What?” Bianca forcefully wiped away her remaining tears and shoved Vivienne away. “You must be so proud of yourself right now, aren’t you?! You got what you wanted. Grandpa is kicking me out of Obsidian Estate!”
Vivienne staggered back a few steps, steadying herself without a hint of anger. “Did you forget? I’m being kicked out too.”
