The streetlamp outside the convenience store flickered as the distant crimson sunset finally sank behind the mountains.
Mina was crying with total abandon, drawing weird looks from every person passing by. What started as casual curiosity quickly morphed into blatant awe the moment their eyes landed on Vivienne. Her radiant beauty was so distracting that several pedestrians literally walked right into telephone poles because they couldn't stop staring.
Keeping a perfectly straight face, Vivienne casually snagged Mina's baseball cap and jammed it onto her own head. Realizing her stunning curves and luminous skin were still drawing too much attention, she picked up the discarded sunglasses from the ground and slid those on, too.
"Waaah! Why is my life such a tragedy?! It's so unfair!"
Vivienne's eardrums were vibrating from the volume. She replied dryly, "Tragedy? You lived a life of ultimate luxury for sixteen years straight. What's unfair about that?"
Mina couldn't handle the blunt truth. She grabbed Vivienne's shoulders and started shaking her violently. "Are you even human?! How can you say something like that right now?! I hate you!"
"Aaahhhh!!!! Nobody loves me! Nobody!!! Aaahhhh!!"
Vivienne let out a slow, long breath.
Vivienne might have acted like a lunatic sometimes, but this girl was actually out of her mind.
*Vroooom—!*
Suddenly, a sharp, ear-piercing roar tore through the evening air.
The convenience store owner sprinted outside to pull in his tables and chairs. He barely cleared the patio before a convoy of limited-edition luxury sports cars came tearing down the street. The sleek phantoms blending into the night, combined with the deafening roar of their exhausts, practically defined arrogant wealth.
The locals were clearly used to the display. Someone snorted sarcastically. "Some people just hit the jackpot at birth, huh? Different lives for different folks."
Right as they spoke, an Aston Martin screeched to a halt right in front of the store. A young, cocky-looking man stepped out. "Hey boss, you sell beer?"
Josslyn Keating froze. In his entire privileged life, this was the first time anyone had dared to lay a hand on him.
Vivienne gave the guy one quick look, hesitated for exactly one second, covered her face, and prepared to bolt.
Josslyn simply reached out and grabbed Mina by the back of her collar, lifting her like a kitten. He narrowed his eyes at Vivienne's retreating form. "Where do you think you're going? Isn't this psycho your friend?"
Realizing Vivienne was leaving her to the wolves, Mina thrashed with everything she had. "Let go of me! Do you know who my grandfather is?! If you don't let me go, you're dead meat!"
Pulling rank in Stormhollow Deepwater Port? Against him? Josslyn arched an eyebrow and condescendingly tapped Mina on the forehead. "Oh yeah? Who's your grandpa? Let's hear it."
Mina puffed out her chest. "My grandfather is—"
Suddenly, the crushing reality of her situation hit her all over again. She burst into a fresh wave of hysterical sobs. "I don't have a grandfather! Waaaaah! I don't have a grandfather anymore!"
