Talia caught sight of Lucian and immediately hung up the phone. "Lucian, what are you doing here?"
"How could I not come after such a massive disaster? Where is Vivienne?"
"In Merriton City," Talia replied.
Lucian's expression was deadly serious. "What is the deal with that video? How did she get a gun? And how did she get mixed up with the Blackthornes?"
"Ugh, keep your voice down. You're giving me a headache."
"..." Lucian nearly choked on his own breath. "Do you have any idea how serious this is? The Blackthornes are using us to bounce back, and Vivienne could very well end up in prison."
Talia shot him a side-eye. "I know. That's why I've already assembled every top-tier lawyer in Stormhollow."
"Is this how you raise a child? You're going to spoil her to ruin!" Just as the words fell, Dorian and Leander walked in together.
Talia raised a brow. "Rare guests. What brings Dorian and Leander here? Tessa? Hurry up and serve the gentlemen some tea."
Dorian's face was grim. "What exactly is going on?"
The moment the afternoon press conference ended, his office phone had blown up. It was either his subordinates asking which side they were on or official media requesting interviews.
A nuclear bomb had gone off in his own family, and he didn't even catch wind of it beforehand. Was that acceptable?
Talia shrugged. "How would I know? Didn't we all watch the live stream at the same time?"
Leander scoffed. "The chief police department has already confirmed the video is authentic. Now they have both witnesses and physical evidence. The prosecutors have filed charges for illegal possession of firearms, endangering public safety, and suspected malicious murder. The court has accepted the case. The Stormhollow Bay Precinct might have already mobilized. And you still have the nerve to play dumb with us?"
"Who's playing dumb?" Talia's expression grew much more serious as she turned to Dorian. "Speaking of which, isn't Merriton City your territory? I'll have to trouble you to give your men a heads-up. They can make the arrest, but don't scare the kid."
A graceful figure stepped out from behind the screen. Aurelia smiled with pursed lips. "Aunt Talia."
Talia closed her eyes, massaging her temples, and took a deep breath. "Are you girls completely out of your minds?"
Aurelia stepped forward to support her aunt. "Vivienne was afraid you'd worry, so she sent me to give you a heads-up. Rest assured, Aunt Talia, Grandfather has officially signed off on this. We aren't just acting recklessly."
Talia huffed. "Dad has lost his mind too, spoiling her rotten."
Aurelia chuckled, trying to soothe her. "If it weren't for the protection of her elders, Vivienne wouldn't have dared to be so aggressive. Especially you, Auntie. Vivienne said that even if she goes to prison, you would figure out a way to buy the entire facility. She knows she'll never suffer."
"Save the sweet talk." Talia shot her a sideways glance. "That massive spectacle at the press conference this afternoon—did you help her set that up?"
The Whitmore family definitely had a trap set at the venue. If The Shadow Chamber hadn't intervened, that final twist wouldn't have gone off so flawlessly.
