In the entertainment district, inside The Fitness Center.
The Volgaar Raiders swept through the rooms, assault rifles raised. After coming up empty-handed, they began to curse.
"Damn it, that punk is slipperier than a muddy eel. He slipped right through our fingers again."
"Boss, maybe we should check somewhere else. If we keep wasting time here, the sun's going to come up."
The leader of the Raiders scowled. He glanced around before reluctantly nodding. "Let's check the courtyard by the bridge first."
At that exact moment, Julian Ravenshire was hiding in an electrical shaft down the hall. His heart hammered in his chest when he heard they were heading to The Pearwood Courtyard.
He waited until their footsteps faded away before slipping out of the shaft. Staying low to the ground, he pressed against the wall and sneaked over to a large glass window to check outside.
The torrential rain made it nearly impossible to see, but he could just make out a few silhouettes heading toward The Pearwood Courtyard.
Julian's usually careless expression hardened, a sharp edge cutting through his features.
He couldn't let them go.
The courtyard was already swarming with assassins. If the Raiders joined the fray, Alaric wouldn't stand a chance. Even though that arrogant jerk undoubtedly had a backup plan, he would forever harbor suspicions after tonight.
Where the hell was Cyril?
Rumble—
Thunder rolled across the sky as black clouds violently amassed over the estate, pressing down like an endless abyss.
The Raiders sprinted through the storm, shielding their weapons. Just as they rounded a muddy bend, one of them was suddenly yanked backward, a jump rope violently pulled tight around his throat.
"H-help..."
Before he could even cry out, Julian, gripping the handles of the rope, leaped from an overhanging roof ten feet above. The Raider was yanked off the ground. His eyes rolled back into his head, he gave two violent jerks, and went completely still.
Hitting the ground, Julian executed a perfect roll, sprang to his feet, and bolted.
