“Dad.”
Talia forced her tears back, holding Bianca’s hand as she walked into the main hall with a calm and composed demeanor.
Her voice broke the eerie silence.
Frederick adjusted his expression slightly, shooting an imperceptible glance at Damien. Damien understood and looked at Talia with a feigned expression of deep affection. The sight made Talia sick, and she ignored him completely.
Damien fell silent, seething, then turned a loving gaze to Bianca. “Bianca, are you okay? Dad was so worried when I heard you were missing. Come here, let me see you.”
Bianca looked down, hiding behind Talia.
Damien’s smile faltered. “What’s wrong?”
Frederick also noticed Bianca’s unusual mood and beckoned to her with a smile. “Bianca, come! Come to Grandpa.”
Bianca hesitated for a moment, then shook her head while still holding Talia’s hand. “Grandpa, I’ll stay here with Mom.”
Talia was taken aback, pleasantly surprised by Bianca’s protectiveness.
Ever since the child had been old enough to understand, she had resented her mother’s lectures. Before today, Talia had always thought that Bianca preferred her indulgent grandfather and father over her strict mother.
Damien frowned and slowly stood up. “Bianca, didn’t you just tell me yesterday that you didn’t want to go to Alderwick? Now Grandpa and I are here to take you back to the Whitmore estate. Aren’t you happy?”
Talia sneered, pulling Bianca firmly behind her. “Damien, I’m warning you. Bianca is my daughter. She’s not going back to the Whitmore estate with you.”
Damien’s face darkened, and he stared at Talia without expression. “Talia, don’t drag our child into our problems. You’re making Bianca miserable. Do you really want Bianca to grow up without a father or a mother?”
Talia found it hard to look at her but still shook her head, stating firmly, “No. It’s true.”
“Waaah!” Bianca suddenly broke down, wailing uncontrollably.
Exposed on the spot, Damien’s face turned pale with anger. “Talia! If you have a problem, take it out on me! Why do you have to torture our child like this?”
“Enough!” Frederick closed his eyes and cut off their argument with a deep voice.
“Caspian, this is indeed our family’s fault. I am responsible for failing to raise this degenerate son properly. I’ll make my position clear right here, right now. Bianca will always be the treasure of the Whitmore family. Since my son has done such a thing, he no longer has the right to a single penny of the Whitmore fortune. If you just nod your head, Caspian, I will immediately transfer all of this degenerate’s assets to Bianca’s name. That way, I doubt he’ll be able to stir up any more trouble in the future.”
“Dad!” Frederick hadn’t mentioned anything about transferring assets before they arrived. Damien was aghast. That was hundreds of millions of dollars. Were they just going to give it all away?
Talia’s expression flickered. She hadn’t expected the Whitmores to be willing to pay such a high price to salvage this marriage. But the higher the price, the more impossible it was for her to agree.
