Hearing those last words from her filled me with a sense of rage, and determination that had me whipping around to tell Eric, “You’ll find Daria. Alone,” My words were full of certainty.
Eric blinked, still probably reeling from the fact that I could telepathically communicate with Daria, and he asked, “What did she say?”
“Eres intends on attacking the pack tonight,” I cast my gaze around. Except for Master Killian, everyone else was here – Jacob held Sabrina in his arms, and they both looked alarmed. Jacob got over it quickly though and nodded grimly. His eyes gleamed with a sort of heavy dark glee that I mirrored.
“He intends to strike while everyone will be searching for Daria,” Eric surmised and I nodded in return, folding my arms. “He’s smart. But not smart enough.”
“Exactly,” Jacob gave a mirthless chuckle. “If he thinks it’s that easy to do so, then he’s a fool.”
“Or he knows something we don’t,” I murmured.
“We won’t know unless we find out,” Eric retorted and folded his arms. “What do you think, Alpha Caleb?”
“We will bring the fight to them,” I said. “I don’t want them ever getting a chance to breach our walls. We’ll split into three teams. One takes down the rest of the spies within.”
“I can do that,” Jacob stood. “We’ll ensure no one gets to escape.”
“Good,” I replied. “From this moment, the entire pack is on lockdown. No one gets in or out without our knowledge. Jacob, have some warriors standby as well. Just in case.”
“And the other two teams?” Eric inquired.
“One more team to handle the borders. If Eres could infiltrate the pack by pretending to be a guard at the Eastern border, then we have a lot more on our hands than we thought. You’re discreet enough, Eric. You can handle this.”
“Killian came in with some warriors,” Eric agreed. “I’ll use them – they’re more used to following my orders.” then he tilted his head, staring at me. “What about you?”
I placed my hand on the desk, leaning back, squaring my shoulders.
“I will lead the majority of our warriors to wait for Eres. I’ll work to locate the cave. Flush the rogues out. And kill Eres.”
Silence reigned for a few seconds before I glanced at them again.
This time my voice was much firmer, deep like I was halfway into shifting.
“We have the potential to take down two of the three rogue leaders. I wouldn’t want to waste this opportunity.

I’ve sent a letter to Alpha Townsend. I expect the Dartmouth Pack and other neighboring packs will lend their aid.”
And if they didnt… I would make sure they regretted it.
We discussed the layout of our plan once more, and pored over a topographical map of the area. There were five caves that were close enough ti the pack compound. I would be searching each and every one of them. Once we had finalized everything, Jacob and Eric set off.
As Sabrina followed her mate, she paused at the door and glanced at me.
“Bring her back, Alpha Caleb. Please.”
I nodded at her, seeing the raw mixed emotions in her eyes. She was concerned for Daria, and terribly so – from the barely concealed dark circles around her eyes to the way her shoulders slumped with exhaustion, I couldn’t help but feel glad that Daria had such a loyal friend.
Eventually i was alone – a brief moment of respite.
‘Caleb,” Daria sounded breathless – anxiety poured through the link, washing over me. I immediately shifted my focus to her.
‘I’m here, love,’ I said to her almost immediately.
‘You have a plan right?’ she asked, almost hesitantly.
‘We do, I affirmed, and slowly, I felt a palpable sense of relief coming from her.
I still couldn’t understand how the mind link i shared with her worked; it was difficult to fathom, but I was only grateful to have it.
‘There’s something I’ll need you to do,’ I began to explain the plan.
The way to the cells was silent, and even the guards bowed and said their greetings to me in hushed tones. Perhaps it was the look on my face, dark and brooding with no desire to even entertain a lighthearted
moment.
I reached Demi’s cell quickly enough. The sunlight shone directly on her through the small barred windows. Her head was hung low, her hair trailing over her face, covering it. Her limbs hung loosely, held up by the
chains.
With a gesture from me, the guards swiftly unlocked the cell.
“Remove the gag,” I ordered.
As soon as she heard my voice she jerked up and stared at me.
Her eyes bored into me, and I met it calmly, uncaringly. She had no way out. I was the one in power here.
