Chase Me Alpha (Daria and Caleb) novel Chapter 109

Chapter 109

Caleb’s POV

My heart leapt when I finally saw her.

There she was.

The rain began to drizzle, painting the atmosphere in a grayish glow.

Eres let out a loud snarl which echoed through the forest. He was pissed.

“I see,” the rogue leader sneered. “You must have done something to track this mate of yours.”

I neither bothered to accept nor deny.

“Whatever you say, Eres, it all comes down to one thing.”

The forest around us rustled with movements. Eres and his rogues were sharp; they looked about them with slow realization dawning. They were surrounded.

The third team had returned, following the trail we left for them, and now we had all converged at the ultimate moment.

“You will die,” I stated with finality.

Eres laughed, his jaw parted as low mocking growls left those lips of his. His rogues, emboldened by their leader’s behavior, followed in his wake, leaving echoes of haunting sounds in the air.

“Die,” Eres tilted his head. “Then you’d have to reach me first. But I wonder if you can do that in time to save the rest of your pack.”

My ears twitched. What the fuck did he mean by that?

“You see,” Eres continued. “Let’s assume you killed me here and now and returned to find your pack destroyed. Would it please you, Alpha Caleb?”

At the mention of the word ‘destroyed’, i hissed, baring my teeth.

“Or,” he continued, even as my warriors were closing in on his group like a noose tightening.

The rain was getting heavier, causing a stream of perpetual white noise to envelope the entire forest.

“Or what?” I sneered, watching him closely.

“You could leave with your men and your pack’s safety intact. Oh, but your mate will not be coming with you of course,” he chuckled.

I snapped; the thought of leaving Daria behind was an impossibility I would NOT fucking entertain.

In a swift move I acted- barely a second flashed by as I aimed a blow at one of the rogues right beside him. Eres barely flinched, but everyone else did. The rogue was unable to dodge the blow, causing blood to splatter out onto the ground and his fur. The rogue wolf fell to his knees, gasping for breath as it bled out with barely a whimper.

“I have another proposition,” I said punctuating my words with obvious malice. “I could kill you. And your men. And anyone who tries to destroy the pack.”

“You can’t be everywhere at once,” Eres sneered, but his eyes flashed with something imperceptible. “And you will not be able to protect her.”

The rogues around him were gearing up to charge, and I gave a wordless signal to my men – everyone was waiting, watching tk see who would make the first move.

“Fucking watch me,” I growled in response.

A twig snapped, and it all went to hell.

Within seconds the entire surrounding became a battlefield. Blood mixed with mud on the forest floor, sinking into the ground.

‘Daria!’ I yelled for her through the link, while I snapped limbs and dragged my claws over the chests and throats of the rogues that stood in my path.

‘Im here! Caleb!’

The rain intensified, clouding the air and making it impossible to make out her presence clearly through the din.

‘Where are you?!’ I stomped my hind feet on the neck of a rogue that tried to bite at my heels, breaking the neck with one move.

Raising my head to the sky i let out a loud howl.

Several wolves howled with me, adrenaline pulsing through everyone’s veins.

‘Caleb!’

That was the last thing I heard before an ear-piercing scream shattered my heart.

“Let me go!”

It was Daria.

My head snapped towards the direction of the sounds in an instant. I charged, unseeing but with a desire to get to her. Suddenly my way was blocked by three rogues. They charged at me, all of them at once.

I cared nothing for their lives; all I wanted was to get through to Daria.

‘I’m coming!’ I said through the mind link, seeing to hear a response from her. But none came.

With ease I dispatched the three rogues, but as they were gone, nore came.

Almost like it was intentional. I fought with everything in me, frustration mingling with hate and anger aimed at Eres and every single rogue.

I left my mark on each and every one of my foes, sending them to hell with a single blow.

“Alpha!” A voice called out – it was one of my warriors. “They’re gone!”

I knew without hesitation who he was talking about.

Because Daria wasnt here. And neither was Eres.

“Find him!” I ordered, and my warriors moved without question.

My fur was wet, dripping with rain. The sky seemed to be crying – a summer rain that left a chill that echoed in everyone’s bones.

Unwavering, I chased the traces of scents that were quickly getting washed away by the rain. If I waited, just one bit… she would be in danger.

With that thought I pushed forward.

And then I saw it. A flash of movement in the hazy distance. Eres. And he was fast.

‘Caleb,’ Daria’s voice echoed in my head, louder than ever. Her voice broke off into a pained whine, before falling silent.

I chased after them, the shadowy rogue and my captive mate. Eres carved a path through the forest, moving towards the borders with ease. And I followed.

Each time I drew nearer he would turn sharply into another direction, cutting me off and speeding up to leave me in his wake.

But I knew he wouldn’t be able to get away for long.

Come on, I pushed all my energy into my feet, gritting my teeth and lowering my head.

Once more, Eres turned another corner, and sped up again, causing me to curse out loud.

Only, a large force suddenly bowled him over, hitting his side. They tumbled, rolling through the slick forest floor until abruptly coming by to a stop at the foot of a large oak tree.

At once I recognized Eric, pinning Eres down and freeing a dazed Daria from the rogue leader’s grasp.

The two men shifted back into their human formed, Eres attempting to slip out from Eric’s grasp.

But if there was one thing I knew about Eric Nolan, it was his ability to be an immovable pain in the ass.

Eric and Eres fought, evenly matched. With each blow Eric countered, Eres grew more and more furious, his growls of frustration slipping out.

I moved to pull Daria into my arms, and she panted, laying her head against my bare chest.

“Caleb,” she whimpered, and I noticed her head was bleeding.

Thinking of what Eres must have done to her, i clenched my jaw and caressed her cheeks with care.

“I’m here, love,” I softly said.

But then I heard something that made my head to snap up and stare up. There was the sound of a bowstring snapping.

The arrow struck Eric in the shoulder, burying deep into his skin. He cried out, barely able to dodge Eres’ blow. I stepped in, shoving Eric aside before the claws could take out his neck.
