Daria’s POV
The chirping of birds outside my window was what welcomed me back to the realm of reality.

My sleep had been fully undisturbed, it was something I marvelled at briefly before recalling that I had something urgent to
Caleb.
Was he back from the border yet?
I rushed to the door, opening it, I crept down the hallway not caring that I was still in my nightgown.
The urgency of everything I had to tell Caleb rang in my mind like alarm bells. I didn’t want anyone to see me meeting Caleb so I would have to be careful.
I will check his bedroom first.
At some point I nearly walked past the corner where a maid was busy cleaning, I swiftly hid myself with heart pounding. I laid low on the ground hidden behind some curtains and waiting for her to pass. She was none the wiser as she walked past where I was without a second glance.
I had to be careful.
I still had no idea what kind of trouble this could get me into and I’d rather not help Caleb while dooming myself.
My lips curled downwards into a scowl as determination filled me, I moved quietly as the sun rose in the horizon, dawn was almost broken by the warm rays that slowly seeped into the sky.
Caleb’s bedroom door soon stood before me and I raised my hand to knock but stopped myself. What if he was with someone?
A strange heat enveloped my body as I remembered Felicia’s and Caleb’s haunting ways of making me feel like an outsider. Then I cared, but why should I do so now?
Without much hesitation now I knocked with two short raps on the door.
I looked around, no one should come and find me here this early.
Especially not like this.
Wrapping my robe around my middle a little tighter I heard the door open. As soon as the door opened I heard shuttling from a short distance away and froze,
Someone was coming close.
Dread and trepidation made my heart rate speed up.
I acted swiftly and pushed my way through the half open door
“What the fuck?” A husky deep male baritone greeted me i shut the door behind me and turned to face Caleb.
He stood merely inches from me and towered over me I noticed his chest was bare and he was shuttless His pajama pants hung low on his hips and I swallowed nervously as I realized I had just woken him, he must have come in pretty late last night

“Sorry,” I said while forcing my voice to remain calm.

He raised a brow at me, gaze unreadable. Even with his hair disheveled and some strands falling over his eyes, there remained a piercing and combination aura about him that made me speechless just for a couple of moments.
“You’re playing with fire.”
I wasn’t sure if I heard that in my head or it was said by Caleb. I glanced up at him with confusion.
“What?” I asked automatically.
“You fucking heard me Daria. Coming to my bedroom at this time. Waking me up. Looking like this. You’re playing with fire.” His eyes burned into my soul so badly I thought I’d really burst into flames.
Daria, chill.
Remain calm and collected.
This means nothing.
I folded my arms and pursed my lips in displeasure.
“I’m not here to fulfil your damn fantasies, Caleb. I’m here to give you information. Important information that could change your plans. If you care about this pack and your position as Alpha then you shouldn’t be making jokes. Not like I care anyway,” I muttered the last part under my breath but he heard it anyway.
I didn’t care, he meant nothing to me or rather, he shouldn’t mean anything to me.
Caleb tilted his head at me and this time he listened to me. He took a step back while raking his hands through his hair.
“Alright,” He finally spoke after a couple of moments. “I’m listening.”
Then I paused. How did I tell him that one of the elders he so trusted could actually be one of his enemies?
Sensing my hesitation Caleb looked at me expectantly. His stare was insistent as if hurrying me up to say whatever it was already.
“I think that-” I began speaking but a sharp knock on the door interrupted me and made me stiffen.
Caleb straightened and his eyes were aimed at the door this time. He glanced at me and I returned the same questioning
gaze.
“Who is it?” He called out in that cool commanding tone of his. I resorted to pinching my elbows to keep myself steadied.
It wasn’t my fault, any warm blooded woman would react the same way to that voice.
“Alpha Caleb. The meeting will be late at this point. I believe it’s time we spoke honestly,” I nearly jumped right out of my
skin
It was Raul of all people
My checks burned as I slowly took steps backwards from the door. What if he stepped in here and saw ine?
I recalled the words and exchanges we’d had since he practically revealed his feelings for me. It Raul knew that i was here in Caleb’s bedroom. What would happen to our friendship?
To my joint surprise and relict Caleb didn’t look furious. He reached for a shirt from the wardrobe and put it on, his arms flexed as he straightened the collar and turned to me.

Chapter 27
“Whatever you want to say can wait. I have work to attend to.”
A terrible feeling pooled in my belly and stabbed my gut.

But I didn’t have time to react as he gestured for me to stand back. I cautiously hid behind the bathroom door while he le the bedroom and I could hear his voice and Raul’s as they talked. Soon the footsteps followed and the voices disappeared into the distance.
Relieved I made my way to my bedroom without any incidents, but it didn’t stop the feeling that crept up inside me.
I had to warn Caleb.
His enemies were more insidious that he thought.
I had a quick shower as Mira cleared my things, I barely paid attention to anything as I checked in elder Gerome.
Even Sabrina’s odd absence that afternoon was admittedly somewhat ignored by me, I knew she was still preoccupied with trying to make a decision about what to do with Jacob and I was trying to find a way to relay the information about Elder Hale to Caleb.
The meeting didn’t end though. I only heard from one of the maids that Caleb had barely taken a break aside from a show and breakfast to finish meeting with the delegates.
The rogue problem hadn’t disappeared and they needed to be dealt with decisively, with the attack the previous night, things had become more urgent than ever for the Wisteria Pack as much as the Dartmouth and Green Packs.
While I understood that it brought me no great sense of satisfaction to know that I was still the only one who had information about elder Hale.
It was dinner time when I finally found Raul and the other delegates looking exhausted but accomplished.
If they were done with the meeting then… that meant, that Caleb-
“He went out briefly. I believe it’s to check on some of the injured warriors still in the pack clinic,” one of the maids serving the rest of the guests’ dinner replied to me once I had asked. She bowed to me as I nodded and dismissed her, my lips curled downwards in dissatisfaction.
All thoughts of dinner had left my mind and my appetite was dead on arrival, rising to my feet, I was about to leave when Raul stopped me, “Aren’t you eating?”
I turned back, heaving a deep breath. “No, I have something to take care of” I muttered.
He stood up and walked towards where I stood, “Did something happen?”
“No, I just need to see Alpha Caleb”
“Caleb?” He questioned, raising his brows and I nodded.
“I’ll talk with you later,” I added and he hunned a reply but for a briet moment, I could see a dark unsettling look on his face, almost as if he was furious but trying to hide it
I already knew why but right, I had to see Caleb first
