Chapter 34

Daria’s POV

This was the first time that seeing Caleb brought me relief instead of trepidation and nervousness.

I noticed Raul freezing and smiled inwardly. He knew he was sewed because Caleb had heard every bit of our conversation.

I had hoped he would believe me and take heed to my words when I had given him the heads up earlier.

Now I just needed to stand back and watch the show but Raul growled and turned towards me with a sharp glare that could burn the skin off anyone.

“You tricked me,” he almost sounded hurt but now I knew the truth behind his facade so I didn’t feel anything but anger. “I never knew you were fucking capable of this or else -”

“Or else you would what?” I dared him. “You should have taken the hint and dropped your plans as soon as you could, Raul. You should have let go.”

Caleb’s voice rang out, loud and clear, “And you don’t have to worry about your dear friends at the starlight pack, my warriors are decimating them. And your spies you placed around my pack? Your allies who want a piece of me? All taken down.”

“You won’t win. I won’t fucking let you!” Raul growled. Then a loud bang filled the air and a force slammed me backwards.

My ears began to ring from the sound of metal and concrete being broken apart.

It happened all in a blur.

One moment I stood behind the bars of the cell I was in, the next thing the bars were broken beyond repair and I was in the arms of the man I now despised.

A scream left my throat as I struggled in Raul’s arms.

Suddenly it was chaos, something I couldn’t control and I was the pawn in the center of it all.

Guards charged at us from every corner but somehow Raul managed to dodge. It was then that I noticed he wasn’t alone.

Not only was the woman still flanking him, but there were seven others who fought tooth and nail with the guards to make

an escape.

The rush of wind on my face told me that I was out of the cells and out in the open. The rogues had attacked and the pack was clearly in trouble.

The might began to take an unexpected turn.

Screams and growls emerged from everywhere.

“Raud let me go. I demanded in a hoarse voice. As if he didn’t her me, his hold on my waist grew tighter. He sped up and shot through the forest seemingly in a specific direction.

Dread filled me as I realized we were heading towards the border of the Wisteria Park I would have no way to escape if he managed to get through

I’d be screwed

I pushed against Kaul’s hold but he was too strong, my vision bred as tears threatened to fall

“You should have helped me when you had the chance instead of turning against me.” Raul said, his nails digging painfully at the side of my waist. “I would have loved you. Treated you better than he would ever. I would never have hurt you, Daria

“You’re hurting me now, I- ow!” I yelled as a claw seemed to deliberately stab my hips as if to get me to shut up.

“Raul!”

Caleb’s voice echoed in the entire forest.

For some reason hope sprung in my heart upon hearing him. I wasn’t alone.

I turned my head back a little and in the distance I saw Caleb charging forward. The other rogue wolves surrounded him but he began to take them down one by one.

Then Raul turned a corner and I jolted. Looking up my heart dropped, we were close to the edge of a cliff. As he ran he moved us closer and closer to the edge but never once did he stop.

“You don’t have to worry. When he’s dead I’ll have his head brought for you to look at,” Raul spoke with dark glee. A shiver ran down my spine and I was speechless.

Then the worst thing happened. A force slammed into us from the side, I cried out and Raul let out an ear piercing growl that shook my body.

We were falling.

Suddenly Raul grabbed the edge of the cliff and pulled himself up but I was left to fend for myself. Desperately I tried to grab onto something, anything to stop my fall.

By luck I managed to find traction on a boulder by the side of the cliff and I cried out for dear life. My legs dangled as sweats formed on my brows.

Tears rolled down my cheeks as I struggled to stay put.

Dear goddess, I thought as my heart pounded, was this how I would die?

Then the sounds of a familiar voice came.

“Daria!”

Caleb’s voice was like a sign from the goddess herself, then his face showed looking downwards at me from the edge. His eyes were full of panic but there was also grim determination.

“You’re fine,” he coaxed and reached his hand out to me. I wasn’t too far off but it was quite a reach, any small mistake would be devastating. “You’ll be fine. You’re safe.”

But despite his words my palms were sweaty and I couldn’t help the resignation that ate me up from the inside. I would die.

I don’t think I stammered. “I can’t hold on.”

“You can I’m here,” he replied immediately.

His hands were close So close but I needed to reach out and take them

With one last sharp inhale I decided to go for it, pushing forward with every last strength behind me. I reached and-

His hand grabbed my trembling once almost instantly. My chestegan to burn-

Before long I was pulled out, his scent was all over me as I found myself in warm strong arms. I couldn’t help it for a second I buned my head to his chest and took deep shuddering rath
