I paused in my writing and raised my gaze up to meet Felicia’s. She sat on the couch opposite mine, dressed provocatively that it was impossible not to take in her figure.
When she had come in I had just finished handling a meeting with the chief of the patrol guards. At first, she had tried to worm her way into my lap, but I had pushed her away subtly and reminded her I was still busy.
That had made her calm down a bit, but her question had been the one that caught my attention the most now.
I knew I didn’t need to ask who ‘her’ was that Felicia was referring to. I knew it was Daria.
Unwittingly my thoughts moved to the last time I’d seen Daria. She had been clinging to me at the cliff when I had saved her but after that, she disappeared once we arrived back at the mansion.
Maybe she was embarrassed?
I recalled how her expression was: her cheeks painted in a blush hat was equally enticing and telling.
I had sent some things to her but had yet to see her. Maybe I’d make time out to do so, I thought absently.
Today was a perfect time instead of waiting idly for a chance. I’d provide an opportunity to get closer to her.
Now that there was no one else vying for her affections I felt more at peace than I ever had when that bastard Raul was in my pack.
“What do you mean by that?” I asked Felicia in a firm demanding tone.
She straightened at my words and sighed before replying, “Baby I don’t know how else to say this… but I think having her stay for longer than necessary is a bad idea.”
My jaw clenched unconsciously. She didn’t know that those words had triggered a well of painful memories in me, when Daria had disappeared, and I’d ended up searching for her like a madman I had felt regret at my actions then.
It had cemented the idea that I would never let her go now or in the next life. We were fated to be together and by the moon goddess’s help I had gotten her back.
“This is why I don’t keep you around for your brains Felicia. You opinions about her are nothing, and I’m fucking tired of explaining this to you.” I replied coolly. Her eyes flashed with frustration, and she rose to her feet indignantly. “I have intentions to make Daria mine again.”
“But I’ve been by your side all these years, she may be your mate her words grated on my ears, and I was so close to throwing her out. “But I’m the one you truly want, baby. It’s just the mate bond that’s confusing you”
The way she said it so full of certainty reminded me of my pastctions towards Daria. How I had treated her terribly to the point that I drove her away.
My greatest regret was letting her go. Letting things go too far.
If I wanted Daria back, I had to create enough boundaries starting from now “Felicia from now henceforth you should regard me as Alpha Caleb and not baby!”
“You don’t mean this, do you? We are supposed to be married ady, but everything paused after she…”
“That’s enough, I heard a calmn voice at the door.

Chapter 36
My heart began to ache the moment I saw it was her.
Daria.

Her hair was tied up into a neat bun and her outfit was simple yet flattering. Yet to me, that was the very thing that I needed to fill me with warmth and satisfaction.
Like a man dying of thirst. I drank in her appearance.
Felicia, however, didn’t react kindly. Immediately she turned to see Daria standing there her expression shifted before my
eyes.
A snarl left her lips and she took several steps toward her. “You were eavesdropping on us?” She demanded like it was her study and not my own personal space she was in.
In response Daria simply smiled and shrugged unbothered. “I don’t think I needed to eavesdrop, considering your voice is as loud as a thunderclap and as sharp as nails on a board. Felicia
If it weren’t said so full of hatred I would have laughed.
“Ha! Who gives a damn anyway?” Felicia crossed her arms and glared imperiously at Daria. “So you overheard. What I’m saying is the truth, you’re nothing but a plague to this pack. In fact, if not for you the rogue Raul might have never gone too far.
“Enough Felicia.” I growled warningly. “YOU’RE the one who’s now going too far.” My voice thundered across the room, “Get out. Now!” I ordered and she looked at me in disbelief.
“Ba… Alpha Caleb. I…”
“Don’t come back until I give permission for you to do so.” I cut in sharply, the only reason I was keeping up with her excesses was because of her father.
“Every damn time you set foot into my home, you always cause trouble, and I’m so sick of it. You clearly don’t deserve the privileges I’ve given to you.”
Whatever else she was going to say remained stuck in her throat and she stared at me in shock.
“B-But-”
“But NOTHING, Felicia. Count yourself as lucky that the goddess favored you today. If you ever insult my mate like that again you will not only pay. Your family will have to deal with the consequences of your actions,” I made my point clear as crystal.
The two women stared at me with vastly different expressions: Felicia’s oscillated between absolute shock and righteous anger. But Daria’s….
It was complicated.
Her eyes met mine without hesitation, but it spoke of anger. I suspected half of it was at least aimed at me- of course, how could it not be so? But there was also a crack in that expression hers, a deep uncontrolled desire and longing
I knew it was so because it mirrored my desires towards her and possible shared
“Alpha Caleb, she isn’t going to stay anyway. Felicia muntered, and my eyes snapped to hers. She couldn’t bring herself to meet my piercing gaze and simply did as I had commanded Fling with her tail between her legs. I knew this wasn’t the

“You don’t have to say anything, Alpha Caleb. I already have no lace in this pack of yours and I will leave soon,” Daria shrugged stiffly while keeping a mostly Stoic gaze fixed on mine
Her words triggered a feeling of anguish that tore through my hart unexpectedly. My chest ached, and I brought my hand up to press against the spot while replying coldly “That isn’t deced yet.”
“Yes it is, and you have no right to stop me, Alpha Caleb. Whatever you have to say it will not change a thing. My leaving is inevitable, and you have my word that I’ll never come back to this place once I’m gone.” She insisted.
“Daria. Can you please stop this?” I burst out within a hiss. She fell silent, and I moved closer to her and grabbed her hand gently.
She tried to pull back, but my grip was a lot firmer. My thumb caressed the back of her clenched hand wistfully. “Your stay here has lightened a lot of things and I can’t lose you again.”
“What did you do when you had me, Caleb?” She retorted quick like she had been waiting for this conversation, “How did you and your pack treat me?!”
I swallowed hard, “I was stupid then, Daria. Anger clouded my thinking and I regret it so much.” She looked up into my eyes, still not speaking. “I searched for you back then. I did everything I could to find you.”
“You didn’t try hard enough then,” she spoke slowly, and each word punctuated with a cold tone. “You didn’t deserve to find me alpha Caleb and you never will.”
But I didn’t relent and stepped closer. “Let’s forget about the past and start afresh, Daria.”
She scoffed before responding, “It’s easy for you to say because you weren’t the one that was hurt.”
Our faces were inches apart, and she inhaled sharply and tried to turn her head away. I raised my hand to cup her cheek gently, my eyes roving over her pale face, her light freckles sprinkled on the top of her nose and cheeks, her red hair that shone like silken thread.
Her eyes remained fixed on mine and I murmured gently, “Please stay….just a few more weeks.”
We were too close and the tension in the air was suffocating. I wished nothing more than to lean in and take a whiff of her
