Hearing those words from Elser Talen made me sneer inwardly so that’s the fucking angle they were playing at. Without even knowing they had given themselves away.

“Who said anything about marriage?” I asked and instantly Elde Talen stopped talking. Looking down at Felicia whose breath caught I calmly tugged her arms loose and put some distance between us at once.

A glance at Daria’s stiff form made me want to go over to her. She wasn’t looking at us. But my heart cleaned at the idea of her thinking I was serious about marrying Felicia.

What she didn’t know was that all these years I’d looked for her like a madman. I had lost her once.

“B-but,” Felicia managed to say with a soft stutter. All the fight had left her from her previous defiant and superior posture. I had been lucky to be informed by someone who had seen the scene and rushed to my doorstep. That was the only reason I managed to get here in time. I had heard nearly everything Felicia had said back then. And now she wanted to play the innocent card.

“But Alpha Caleb. It’s true that you have kept Felicia by your side isn’t it?” Elder Talen spoke with vehement certainty.

“What makes you think you can dictate my intentions?” I countered. Crossing my arms I glared at the lot of them. “Don’t talk of things you don’t understand. And let’s make things clear. Even if I may have foolishly wished to bond with Felicia before, her actions prove that she’s not suited to the Luna position.”

“Alpha Caleb. This all sounds a little rushed. Now isn’t the time to make such rash decisions,” Elder Talen stepped forward while raising both his hands. I sneered at his sudden change of tune. Now he looked wary and frustrated.

“What else did you expect? I’m not an Alpha who takes decisions lightly. And you have forced my hand. I could have forgiven the various times you tried to act above your station,” I addressed Felicia now without even bothering to glance at her. “But you had to continue pushing your damn luck.”

“Caleb I can explain it all,” her high pitched voice got even higher as she shook her head repeatedly. “I didn’t do anything wrong.”

“Then you need some confinement to get your brain running properly,” I growled. “By the goddess, yoir thought process is astonishing.”

“W-what?”

Mention of confinement to anyone who, like myself and Jacob and Felicia as well – was raised among families of Elders and other nobles was like a prison sentence. It was a restriction of freedom of movement and activity. I had been in confinement several times as a young pup.

Back then it was grueling.

Now as a grown wolf, it would be a sting on anyone’s dignity.

“If you don’t watch your steps from now on, that’s what you have to look forward to Consider this my final act of mercy to you and my final warning”

The silence that ensued was more telling than before Expectations had been shattered by my very words. And Felicia’s They wouldn’t dare question me now. Not when the expression darkened with each passing second. I scoffed inward evidence was before us all

words hang in the air as I made my exit. Daria was led by the guards and Zane to stand beside me. Her lips pursed as though she wanted to say something but couldn’t. Her expression was shattered. I couldn’t tell what she was thinking.

As we walked the silence enveloped us. It was tense and practically vibrating with a charged atmosphere.

At some point I swore I could hear a loud familiar screech behin us but it was swiftly cut off and I didn’t bother to pay

attention to it.

Instead my focus was on Daria.

I glanced st her out of the corner of my eye while my footsteps d me on autopilot. The anger had dissipated already from my system. What was left was the concern I had only felt a handl of times. The last time I had felt that was when Daria had nearly fallen down the cliff. An overwhelming urge to hold my mate close. To take care of her and make sure she would never leave my side again.

It was possessive and raw that I could hardly stop myself from string at her.

If I had been any later, the injuries she sported now would only be a fraction of what she’d have then.

The realization that Felicia cared not one bit about how she treated Daria in public set a chill running down my spine. Had things been this way before?

I knew the pack didn’t accept her because I never did. But I never expected things would escalate like that.

A sharp inhale from her made me turn back to glance at her face A breeze swept through the area. The street was shaded by the trees on both sides.

Concern for her grew.

Her body was trembling and her hands clenched tightly. Despite the lack of care on her face I knew that something was

wrong.

I immediately took off my jacket and draped it over her shoulders. She stiffened and sharply turned to glance at me. Our

eyes met.

“Are you alright, love?” I asked without thinking.

Her eyes widened just a fraction to reveal more of her round blue irises before she looked away.

“Your concern for me isn’t needed Alpha Caleb. I’m fine,” She relied but her lips still trembled and her breaths were shallow and fast.

I wanted to call her out for lying. Perhaps pressure her into talking to me more. But a part of me knew it would be the worst mistake I ever made.

I wasn’t trying to push her away. This time I’d have to treat her differently from any other woman I’d been with. And it started now.

“I know. But it doesn’t stop me from showing it,” I replied to her with a shrug. Removing my hands from her gently, I strode forward. Her eyes were heavy and lingered on the back of my head. Then I heard her footsteps as she pushed to catch up

with me.

As we approached the front porch of the mansion I saw Sabrina ringing her hands with my best friend Jacob by her side. He looked to be comforting her Seeing them both together mamy lips twitch in a small smile. It would seem he was making great progre getting his mate on his side

“Oh Daria,” Sabrina cried out and ran all the way down the from eps to Daria She pulled my mate into her arms and looked heartbroken and Junious. I should have been there. Thhould never have happened”
