Chapter 47

Caleb’s POV

As soon as I had walked in I was faced with the figure of Alpha Kingston.

His arrival didn’t surprise me as much as it angered me.

After all, I’d received a letter from him two days before. But I ha decided to not respond swiftly. He and I weren’t allies in any way and I loathed his pack.

“Alpha Caleb,” Kingston nodded in greeting. I detected a hint of annoyance in his eyes as he bowed to me. He hated being seen as inferior. That wa part of what made other packs hate his.

I nodded and kept a stoic expression. The last time that I had seen Alpha Kingston had been when I was looking for Daria like a mad man.

I still remembered his loathing words.

“When I get to that girl myself I will make her regret it. Don’t worry Alpha Caleb. Our alliance still stands strong.”

He had assured me back then that I had nothing to fear from the Red Vale pack. But when the rogues began to attack us where was the Red Vale pack and Alpha Kingstons promise?

He began to speak again and this time I tuned it out. It was only when I sensed a familiar presence closeby that I tilted my head and listened.

Daria’s scent was unmistakable. My nostrils flared as I breathed in the faint scent and listened for her footsteps. Strangely her steps were light and almost stealthy as they went up the steps. They had a hurried tempo to it.

“Alpha Kingston I’m sure we have a lot to discuss. But now isn’t the time. Some rest after your long journey would do you and your people some good,” I spoke and cut off the droning man whose gaze grew darker and darker with each passing second. He already knew I hadn’t been listening and by the moon goddess, I didn’t give a damn about it.

If daria was trying to hide then getting Alpha Kingston out of the way quickly was the best solution. I gestured to the maid nearby who looked at me nervously.

“Have Alpha Kingston s things sent to the guest room at the northern suite. Make sure he’s comfortable,” I ordered to which she bowed in obligeance.

Alpha Kingston couldn’t complain even though I saw how stiffly he held himself. His gaze was turned away and his jaw set like he had something to say but wouldn’t let it slip out.

Well. I didn’t give a fuck to be honest.

The northern suite was far away from Daria’s bedroom which was what I wanted. As for Alpha Kingston’s stay I’d make sure he didn’t have to be here longer than a day or two.

I sighed heavily and raised my hand to rake through my hair. Idn’t yet finished dealing with the rogues and now I had to deal with this.

It turned out that Raul wasn’t the only threat. This rogue groups like a hydra Where one was cut off two more would take its place

“You look terrible.” Jacob’s sarcasm was loud and clear in his voice as he announced his arrival. His hair was slightly disheveled and his eyes looked stone cold despite the lighthearted tone he had used.

He carried a folder and his grip on it was tight. Something was wrong.

“News of the rogues I assume,” I gestured to the folder.

However he shook his head and handed it to me.

“The autopsy on the girl. Names Sara. The pack doctor gave me the folder to hand to you since I was already there, he replied with a heavy look. A second passed and then he asked, “You know her don’t you? The girl”

I stiffened.

“What Makes you say that?” I asked him with a mild edge to my voice.

“Because I already have a suspect in her murder.”

I opened the folder with a low hum. The picture depicting her death was gruesome. But worse was the autopsy.

“Her eyes were removed before she died?” I read the autopsy aloud with disbelief and fury. This wasn’t just a simple murder It was an act to deliberately disfigure and disgrace her.

“Worse. They found cuts and bite marks on her body. Especially her torso and neck. And…” he paused and exhaled slowly The air was heavy with the implications. “It’s clear that she was attacked.. physically,”

“You mean…” I trailed off.

“There’s other signs on her body. Her lower half,” he tapped the folder impatiently, or rather, out of the horror that would surely fill anyone that knew of a heinous crime such as this. “There were incisions made on her thigh and other regions, This was also covered in the autopsy,”

Fuck.

My hands gripped the folder tightly in the same manner that Jacob had been when he walked in.

“Who do you suspect?” My voice was hoarse as 1 demanded of best friend and Beta.

“You’re probably not going to believe this but-”

“Who.”

I watched as he struggled to find the words but finally settled on Felicia

I knew it. It was like a puzzle that was finally completed with the last piece slotting perfectly into place.

Jacob continued, “Reports reached me of Felicia being seen with her family’s guards at the same club that Sara had been to last night. And she was also seen early in the morning in that part of the forest at the same time Sara was said to have died.”

I saw red. But I calmed myself down. I was going to ruin her.

“Youre right. It is her. I was with the girl last night. But it wasn’t didn’t say anything more than that. I couldn’t have sex with the girl so I left. I hadn’t even touched her after that
