Chapter 58

Caleb’s POV

I had barely said those words when Daria shot back cuttingly.

“Even if I left, so what? Yoire crossing the line alpha Caleb.” She pulled back from me and despite the urge to not let her I knew it would be a grave mistake if I made that move.

Her words however was like a shot of an arrow to the heart. Without a doubt she had said that to hurt me. And it worked so terribly well.

I contained myself; the thrill of the previous battle still made my blood boil. I growled unwittingly. I wasn’t sure what hurt more, my shoulder or her heart.

The clearing suddenly buzzed with murmurs and I looked up to see Jacob and some of our men enter the clearing. A mixture of shock and elation filled me.

“Beta Jacob,” Daria murmured and a few other men bowed to him. He nodded and patted some on the back as he approached me. Upon seeing my injured shoulder he whistled lowly.

“That looks terrible man. Are you feeling good?” He grimaced as if imagining the wound being on his own shoulder.

“Hurts like a bitch,” I replied. My mood was a little lighter as he arrived. But I still couldn’t help watching Daria’s back as she stepped away and walked towards a small backpack to pick it up. Jacob, How did you find out we were in trouble?”

“Actually it was Sabrina. She asked me to search the area. Said someone might be missing. I wasn’t sure,” I tilted my head in curiosity and saw Daria frozen to her steps. She had heard what Jacob said. I had no doubts it had something to do with her.

Whatever it was I had to keep her close. By any means necessary

“Prepare to head back,” I raised my voice and it filled the clearing. All the men and Daria heard and the men bowed in obligeance and moved around packing up without more words said.

Hissing as I shifted my shoulder I picked up the shirt that had been handed to me earlier. I barely managed to move my injured shoulder to place the arm through the armhole. I didn’t bother buttoning it up. Instead I turned to Jacob again. This time I kept my voice low and our conversation private.

“Make sure Daria doesn’t less your sight. She’ll return with us,” I said.

He nodded and I hoped that would be settled.

But minutes later Daria showed her anger towards me as we departed. She glared at me furiously and stormed to my side to confront me.

“Alpha Caleb What is the meaning of this?” She pointed to Jacob and the men flanking her from behind with annoyance, “1 thought I made it clear. I am leaving”

I was used to lying to myself any how. “Don’t forget we haven’t figured out who sent you that letter in the first place.”

“Who knows if it’s your pack that’s putting me in trouble in the st place, Alpha Caleb?”

It was an empty return from her and she sighed. The ponytail she wore her hair in had gotten a bit loose and several strands fell down the sides of her face.

Without thinking I reached for the strands and tucked some bend her ears. Her cheeks flushed red and she blinked rapidly before her brows furrowed and anger showed in her eyes.

“You’ll always have a safe place in the Wisteria Pack, love. Always I remarked softly before turning to regard my men. They were studiously giving Daria and I some space and I didn’t think much about it.

Raising my voice again I ordered, “Let’s move!”

The journey back to the pack was much shorter than the one leaving the pack.

As soon as we reached the gates 1 gave orders for the patrol team to keep eyes out. I expected rogues would still be in the vicinity. Maybe even a hideout was closeby We hadn’t taken care of all of them.

By the time I got to the mansion all of the guards had been dispched and dismissed to their various posts. Some had been sent to the pack doctor to look at their more serious wounds.

Daria went off with them and murmured something about helping to see to the warriors on time. I watched her go and Jacob was by my side.

“Don’t worry Caleb. She won’t be going anywhere without my knowledge.” He said. I paused briefly and then nodded in
