Caleb’s POV

“Alpha, Beta,” the guard greeted me. He had an unmistakable cuon his face. My brows furrowed as we both stared at him.

“What happened?” I demanded. Jacob straightened from his spot on the couch and eyed the guard with interest in his eyes.

The guard replied, “We caught an intruder in the pack. We found him hiding in the back stairwells of this mansion Alpha. He claims to be innocent. But we don’t know for sure.”

A chill ran through me. With a growl I slammed my hand on the table which shook. Gulping down the rest of the whiskey I had poured in my cup shortly I turned to the guard with a dark are.

“How was he caught? Tell me everything.”

That was how the whole s to u came out. Apparently it was a mail who had sounded that alarm after finding the man hiding underneath the outer windowsill of Daria’s bedroom.

If not for the fact that Daria had left so suddenly, who knew what would have happened.

Feeling even more angered, I asked the guard, “Where is he now!”

“In the cells beneath the mansion Alpha. We will move him once you give the orders.”

“Don’t. Keep this news quiet. No one outside the mansion should hear a word of this.” My orders came swiftly.

Jacob furrowed his brows and glanced at me in confusion. He had no idea yet about the threat to Daria or what I had suspected about a stranger entering the Wisteria Pack through the eastern gate.

Sighing inwardly I told the guard, “You May go. Have the guards keep watch on him until I say so.”

The guard bowed deeply to myself and then to Jacob before turning around and leaving in a uniform stride.

“Alright. Explain,” Jacob spoke as soon as the door was shut and faced me. “Who’s the guy and why do you not want his actions known to the pack.”

“Because I will handle things myself.” I stated. Then I reached around the table and took out the note before handing it to Jacob

His expression got darker as he read it.

“When was this?” He demanded.

“It was yesterday. It was sent to Daria. And she is clearly a target explained “And I suspect more than ever that Alpha Kingston of the Red Vale Pack might be involved.”

His brows rose further

“You mean to tell me that Alpha Kingston might be targeting his taughter?” He sounded disbelieving “Isis’t he the same one who offered her hand in marriage back then? Why would he attk her?”

Jacob left after a short while. I sat on the chair behind the desk. little tipsy from the continuous flow of whiskey I’d taken through my discussions with my best friend I let my eyes wander around the study just like my mind. Yet no matter how hard I trie each time my mind would drift to her.

My eyes stayed fixed on the newest charcoal sketch I’d made. I had started indulging myself again. But only just a little. The sketches I made of her were only a little way of me showing my intentions.
