I grumbled inwardly. If I had known that my attempt to leave the Wisteria Pack would be upended by some rogues then I wouldn’t have even bothered.
Caleb’s muscles rippled as I examined the wound trying to stay as objective as I possibly could.
Rinsing the clean napkin with the basin of water I wiped the area around the wound gently. I pressed my lips thinly.
From what I noticed about Caleb it was clear. He wasn’t pleased with me.
A part of me didn’t care. But I’d be honest. It was unnerving to see him this way. I suppose I’d gotten used tk seeing his warmth aimed at me even when goddess knows I didn’t ask for it
After a while it was near unbearable.
“What did you find out?” I asked, breaking the silence. “About the rogues I mean.”
Caleb sighed heavily and I watched his chest heave up and down
“Daria-” he sounded strained.
“What? It has something to do with me doesn’t it. Those rogues were also after me so if you think you can hide information from me-”
“Just like you hid the fact that you were planning on leaving without telling me you mean,” he cut me off. “If you knew that you’d be a target then maybe you shouldn’t have tried what you did today.”
I was utterly speechless. The gall of this man. He was so- – Ugh.
“You’re impossible.” I muttered and wrapped the crepe bandage fighter than I had originally intended.
He hissed, his voice breaking off into a low growl that sent shivers down my spine.
Suddenly my arm was grabbed and I found myself being pinned down by his stare. His breath fanned my face and I couldn’t help it.
I pulled back and tried to put some distance between us only to end up tripping and nearly falling on my backside.
“Woah!” I reached to grab Caleb’s arm and in an instant he reacted, tugging me even closer.
A tingle ran down my spine as our lips touched.
My eyes went wide and I tried to free myself. But it was impossible. He was just too strong
His lips melded against mine and made me gasp as pleasure miged with shock caused a ripple of turbulent emotions in my
heart
Caleb’s hands tightened against my waist, pulling me closer and telt his thumb caress my skin.
A soft moan left my lips before I could hold back Breathless and panting I was helpless against hum for a brief period,
“You’re so damn infuriating love. Trust me.” His lips murmured aganist my neck and I closed my eyes. My heart was beating in pataccato rhythm that it almost felt like it would burst out of my chest
“Stop On? I managed to find the sirengile to push him back The time he let me His grey eyes gleamed with an emotion !

didn’t want to decipher just then. “Alpha Caleb you’re crossing the line.”
“Tell me how I have. Is it by kissing you or by wanting to keep you safe?” He asked in a daring tone.
My lips parted as if to speak but no words would come out.

“Both.” I managed to say moments afterwards. He sat facing me in an imperious manner that made me even more frustrated. How could an Alpha like him act so impulsively?
“Whatever you say, love. Now are you going to stand there or finish the job?” He gestured to his shoulder which now has a small patch of red on the starch white bandages.
Whatever.
I glanced at the half wrapped bandage and pressed my lips together. I just had to care for his wound and leave.
Sitting beside him once again I tried to keep my distance as much as possible while working. It almost felt like I was straining my back for this purpose but I didn’t care. As long as he would act professionally.
My hands worked on autopilot as I tied the bandage expertly. Meanwhile my chest was filled with budding warmth that beat almost like a pulse. I wondered if it was the mate bond again but suddenly pushed the thought out of my mind. It couldn’t be.
I just had to stay calm.
Changing the topic once again I asked, “You said I was a target of the rogues.”
“I didn’t say that love.”
“Yeah but you implied it Alpha Caleb. So how sure are you?” I demanded. “It’s my right to know so I can stay safe.”
“The best way for you to stay safe now is to remain in the pack,” he said just like many times before. I restrained the urge to roll my eyes and focused on applying the poultice around the bandages to finish up.
I wasn’t going to argue with him this time. He saved my life twice now. And that meant I had to be somewhat nice to him.
“I have evidence from Alpha Townsend that your father is involved,” He finally said.
Shock filled me and my hands stilled. I glanced at Caleb’s eyes trying to discern a lie but there was none.
“You’re serious.” I started softly.
“And if your father’s involved it makes sense why you would be target,” he continued without hesitation. Sighing, he rolled his injured shoulder just a little. “There’s been someone found seaking around the mansion. I suspect he’s from the Red Vale Pack as well. He was found under your bedroom window.”
A chill overtook me and I shivered.
The words he spoke seemed far fetched but-
I knew he could only be telling the truth. My mind whirled at the implication.
“The note” Lintoned. “Don’t tell ine you think it could have bee I didn’t want to finish the words, I was reeling from a lot of the news that he had told ine
“That’s why I’m insisting. Daria You may not want to listen to eyes bored into mine I couldn’t help but nod in agreement.

As I began to clear up I heard a loud noise outside the door. My Breath caught and I raised my head and glanced at the door. The noisiness continued.
Caleb sighed heavily and for the first time I saw a hint of weariness and annoyance in his eyes.
