Daria left the study even before I got the chance to speak. Frustrated, I stood while clutching the bandaged shoulder. The tingle of the poultice she had so carefully applied already down my arms and up to my neck. I grunted as I moved out of the study and towards the foyer.
Loud voices reached me even though I was far away. An argument was taking place.
Elder Talen seemed to be right in the middle of it. He stood facing Jacob and elder Gerome along with a few other elders I recognized as minor members of the council. Elder Talen wasn’t alone either. He had three elders behind him looking grimly forward.
“I think this is a bad idea.” Elder Talen insisted with firmness and pointing upward. “Having Alpha Kingston leave in such a disgraceful way has spurned the alliance. We have to ally with the Red Vale Pack. They are a major pack in the region. Like it
or not.”
“Perhaps you’ve misheard me Talen. I’m not against having our pack allied with others,” Elder Gerome looked calm and collected. With Jacob by his side he appeared even more powerful and influential. “I am against attacking Alpha Caleb’s actions without considering the facts. The Red Vale Pack was on a rival pack to the Wisteria Pack.”
“Just barely, I spoke and announced my presence. Everyone’s eyes snapped up to the staircase as I descended. My expression was stoically fixed at Elder Talen. He met my gaze at first looking firm. But then he looked away the closer I got. I refrained from scoffing at his cowardice.
“Alpha Caleb.” Elder Gerome bowed to me and I stopped him and the rest on his side from doing so.
“You’ve just recovered. I don’t think missing a bow will complicate the order of things. Don’t strain yourself,” I chided him softly. He whirled a small smile at my words and turned to Jacob
“Beta Jacob here was just telling me about how you encountered rogues on our way back from the borders.” Elder Gerome was an expert at leading a conversation towards where he wanted it to go.
But before I could reply Elder Talen jumped in with a small grow that made my lips curl downwards.
“I don’t think we have time to discuss the Rogues now. Not until we talk about the alliance with the Red Vale pack Alpha Caleb. What do you say?” He asked in that usual demanding tone
Another Elder on his side spoke up with a weary and thin voice that grated on my nerves.
“Alpha Caleb knows that we assure the regions safety especially by having alliances with our strongest neighbors. The Red Vale Pack is one of them. Angering Alpha Kingston will not help
I could hardly stifle my chuckle. I laughed at the thought of being threatened by Alpha Kingston.
“Well, you must think of the Red Vale pack as being a powerhouse Elder Greyson.” I called him out directly and he paled. “And forget that our pack has held a territory and army larger than most of the packs combined.”
I glanced at Elder Talen who looked dissatisfied. I smirked at hig He was trying to play a game he thought he could win. But I knew better.
“Why do you think I Would risk destroying our alliance with the Red Vale ppack?” asked Elder Talen
He spluttered and in his eyes I saw anger
“hurt it obvious why you ended this alliance? Alpha Calebs don’t put your personal matters above the matters of the pack. It’s clear that you are trying to curry favour with that woman but ke no mistake she has always brought problems to the park and always will

I growled and stepped in front of Elder Talen threateningly.
“Say that again and lose your tongue. I have been silent long enough. But one more word…”

He didn’t need to hear the rest for him to know what was coming next. If I could have Felicia in confinement I could just as easily exile her forever from the pack. She would be unable to return. And to Elder Talen, she would remain unable to take her place as my Luna.
Not that she even had a chance.
“And as to your concern for the Red Vale pack, I must commend you. But your worries are aimed at the wrong place.” I let my words drip with sarcasm and I heard a stifled laughter break off into a cough. I didn’t need to turn around to know it was my best friend watching from the sidelines. “Since you’ve decided to make this public I will tell you. There is evidence that shows Aloha Kingston has a hand behind the rogues that have been plaguing the region.”
The murmurs erupted around me and I knew they all had questions.
