Early the next morning I got up with only one destination in mind: to see the captured man that was targeting Daria. I still didn’t believe I had to let her see the person in question. But her request was also loaded. It was a chance for me to get a bit of her trust and love.
Gritting my teeth I stepped out into the darkness,
1 had given orders previously to keep the man in the cells underneath the mansion. That meant no one but I, Daria and Jacob and a handful of guards knew he even existed.
The hallway was silent and only a few guards on the night shift noticed my presence. Wearing only a robe over my thin lounge clothes I stepped into the shadowed part of the basement with ease. Everything looked as it should be. The basement held a few shelves of stored food, clothes and upholstery that weren’t in use this season. But there was a secret passage none but the Alpha and chosen guards were meant to know.
Crossing over to the other side I placed my hand on the stone wall and pressed the one single stone.
The hidden door creaked open and soft breezy current rolled though the basement.
As soon as I stepped inside I shut the door. Scones of warm lighting lined both sides of the stairs. I walked with ease and stealth, listening to the soft murmurs of the guards on the shift. They hadn’t noticed my arrival yet – but as soon as I stepped into the brightly lit corridor their murmurs stopped instantly.
“Alpha,” the guards bleed and fell to their knees. I gestured silently for them to rise, which they did.
“Where is the prisoner?” I asked with steel lining my words. A guard stepped forward and bowed again.
“I’m the one in charge of tonight’s shift Alpha. Let me take you to him,” he spoke and I nodded.
The way to the cells was short and silent. As soon as we reached he cell in which the intruder was kept I heard a harsh growl.
“I said I want to see the Alpha,” the voice of the intruder was gravelly. Yet there was no hint of fear or anger in them. Instead it was a cool certainty that made a strange curiosity well up in m
I had to know what this man was up to.
“And you are about to see him,” I responded as I stepped into view. The moonlight streaming in from the window cast a pale glow on the man. His eyes were dark. His face was unshaven and his hair disheveled. Yet there was a poise in which he sat that gave me pause.
The man slowly stood as our eyes met and I recognized it as my wolf suddenly growled in my head. I could barely refrain from doing the same thing out loud myself.
It almost felt like I was staring at myself in the mirror… or rather an equal
*Alpha Caleb Your reputation precedes you,” he bowed fluidly, which nearly made my eyes widen in shock. I was expecting a lot of things but respect from an intruder who came from the Red Vale pack wasn’t one of them
“Leave us, I commanded the guard who stood by. He disappear quickly and quietly
“I take it you also wanted to see me, then. The man chuckled lightly, his voice hoarse but still controlled
I tilted my head and looked at him properly Through the eyes a warrior like myself I anally saw what it was I needed to
“You did all dus deliberately didn’t you?” I said “You wanted my tention From the moment you came through the gates of

The man laughed again and his shoulders shook.

“The goddess didn’t bless you with only might alone, I see. You’re very quick on the uptake Alpha Caleb.”
“But with little patience.” I snapped back. “You have my audience Now speak. What does a member of the Red Vale Pack
want to see me for?”
“I’ll have you know that you shouldn’t associate me with the fucking scum that the Red Vale Pack members all appear to be,” the man stated coldly. “My name is Eric Nolan. And the Red Vale Pack is my enemy “
Now that was a fucking shocker. I narrowed my eyes onto the man in silence. Was he telling the truth?
“I find that hard to believe, Eric Nolan.” I replied just as chillingly “What makes you think that I’ll believe that?”
“You may not believe me. But your mate will,” he shot back.
Daria.
He mentioned her so easily and a surge of anger flooded my veins.
Growling, I shot my hand through the space between the bars and grabbed the man by the throat in an instant.
“Keep her out of your mouth!”
“Or what?” He chuckled darkly. “You’ll kill me? Good. That means you’re not the scum I thought you once were. Alpha Caleb. My goal is to protect Daria from people who want to destroy her.”
“By threatening her with a note you mean,” I replied easily. “What do you think protecting her means?”
“It means telling her the truth!” Eric’s yell echoed down the entire corridor of cells. “I have the truth about it all. Her background. What that Alpha Kingston did to take power. Her mother… I have it all.”
My grip loosened as his words hit me.
He knew all that?
Impossible.
But he seemed to recognize I was listening now, even more than before.
“My name is Eric Nolan,” he repeated. “And I’m her cousin. Her mother was Iris Nolan. And my father was her younger brother. I have evidence that Alpha Kingston tried to bury for decades. Secrets about Daria’s birth.”
I stood frozen as he continued speaking.
What kind of secrets was he talking about?
Eric added, “I went to the Red Vale pack five years ago to find Da But little did I know that she would be married off to you. Alpha Caleb Now I have the chance to see her again And as time. I’ll make sure that scum Alpha Kingston gets destroyed for good!
His voice had reached a fever pitch this k with fervour and certainty

“If you say you want to protect her then you will be honest and me everything you know. Now,” I spoke firmly. “Or will never get the chance to see her again.”
He looked a little hesitant at first and I seized the chance to stepway from the cell as if to leave. He panicked instantly and yelled out for me to stop.
“Fine. I’ll tell you,” he finally said. Then he began a tale like no her, which ended in one way only. Death and betrayal.
As I listened it cemented even more in my mind that I had no idea who I had been dealing with all this time.
