The next morning without prompting Daria came to meet me pectantly. I got a knock on my bedroom door and when I opened it she was there.

Just having gotten out of the bathroom and gotten dressed, I was still wiping my damp hair with a towel while gaping at her.

“You’re up early this morning.” I remarked with a lack of other words to say.

“That’s because this is important.” She replied and gestured at visage. “Are you dressed and ready to go now or should we reschedule?”

“It wasn’t even on my schedule to begin with,” I muttered grumbling under my breath. When it came to what she wanted she was always up and ready, but when it came to what I wanted she would always find an excuse to avoid me.

I scoffed inwardly; she was quite intriguing.

But I wasn’t about to let her have her way just yet.

“I told you.” I said as I stepped out. Luckily it was still so early in the morning that there was no one in the hallway but us. “There’s some details that we still have to discuss.”

I wasn’t about to tell her her familial connection to Eric Nolan just yet. Not until I was done with my investigation.

“What details?” She demanded with her eyes narrowed at me. Side by side in the hallway I could not help but take a whiff of

her scent.

“For one, you have to wait and let me find out everything he knows first,” I said. “I’m not going to put you in a position where you get trapped because we moved too quickly.”

Daria had no words for that, and my reasoning WAS sound. She sighed and folded her arms across her chest, which only served to make my eyes land on her ample cleavage. She was dressed in a black shirt and jeans, but even with the simple way she looked, there was an elegance about her that was unmistakable.

“Fine, Alpha Caleb,” she said. “We will play things your way. For now.”

I knew that my mate was dissatisfied and she wasn’t afraid to let me know it. As we moved to the dining hall I ran over the tasks of today that weighed on my mind. I had invited Alpha Townsend here today for a brief meeting to strategize. I still wanted to keep things secret so I’d have to find the time to slip out. Luckily, Jacob would cover me. The full moon festival was over but the day after I still had a party that would be held in the largest meeting hall this evening, and this time, I couldn’t simply slip away.

Sighing inwardly, I left for my study, bading Daria a goodbye and off to do some paperwork.

Soon afternoon came while I was locked in the throws of paperwork and it was a knock on the door that startled me out of my daze.

“Come in,” I called out.

“Alpha,” it was a guard I had entrusted secret missions to in the past. He didn’t wear a uniform this time as I had specifically instructed, to avoid eyes. As he bowed, he said, “Alpha Townsends here Shall we bring him in here?”

I shook my head decisively.

“Send him to the meeting hall up north. No one would be there and we can meet without eyes or ears listening.”

He bowed again and left to do my bidding. Meanwhile I stood and stretched. My stomach growled; I had neglected to get breakfast, and I was paying for it now. As I left I asked a maid to rack some small snacks for me. One of the guards helped to carry it to the meeting place while I held paperwork that contained reports that were displeasing to hear.

The sun was high up in the sky as I reached the meeting hall. Alpha Townsend was dressed simply, and very discreet. Anyone who saw him wouldn’t think he was an Alpha, and I inwardly praised him for his attention to his disguise.

“Alpha Townsend,” I greeted, and he bowed to me out of respect

“Alpha Caleb. Permit me to ask your forgiveness for not attending yesterday’s festival. I was truly busy,” he said by way of greeting

I nodded and waved my hand gesturing for him to sit across from me. As soon as he did, a guard began placing the snacks I had ordered brought on the table. Then I slid across the paperwork I held to him.

He caught it effortlessly, though his brows furrowed at me out of confusion.

“And this is…” he asked.

“This is the evidence I have gathered so far, Alpha Townsend. Not only are we dealing with Alpha Kingston, but we’re dealing with spies in nearly every pack in the region. And in order to win this war we need to be cautious. Did you tell anyone where you’d be going today?” I asked the question with grimness.

“Not at all. For all everyone knows I decided to go for a short trip to the borders,” Alpha Townsend replied understandingly “Spies. In EVERY pack?”

“Nearly every pack. The Starlight Pack,” I made mention of the bow defunct pack which I had destroyed due to the last battle with the rogues led by Raul. “Was definitely in on the conspiracy. But for packs like the Green pack and your Dartmouth pack, it’s a few spies we found out. You have done well to root most of them out, but you still have to be careful not to get found out.” I gestured to the papers he held. “My men found a few others that are in your pack, and how they are all connected.”

Alpha Townsend growled, his gaze darkening.

“This is worse than even I expected, Alpha Caleb. It seems our alliance is needed.”

“Exactly. I have sent a brief message to the Alphas of nearly all the packs in the region. If they get the hint they will be ready to ally with us as well.”

Our discussion lasted for more than three hours. And by the time it was done, both of us looked weary and angered. We had overlooked a lot of things from Alpha Kingston and the Red Vale pack many times, thinking him too cowardly and harmless to do anything against us. It had been a slow descent into chaos. And now we had to put a stop to all of it.

After the meeting I returned to the mansion. I had someone to meet right before the party was going to take place.

“Alpha Caleb, Eric Nolan greeted. His hair had now undergone a small haircut and he looked less disheveled dressed in neat

clothes

“You demanded my presence, Eric Nolan. What is it you have to say?” I asked without giving him a chance to form excuses He had sent word earlier today, and I had ignored it until the last minute. However much I didn’t care for what he wanted, he was a tentative ally and I had to treat him well.

“You promised I will get to see my cousin I think two days have passed Long enough When will I be seeing her?”

I glanced out the window of the guest bedroom it was right in northern suite of my mansion, and it was one of the most

quiet parts of the mansion
