Chapter 70
Daria’s POV
I held my breath until I saw that Caleb had left.

The aconite derived perfume meant to hide scents had worked perfectly. He didn’t catch a whiff of my presence even when he had all but led me to this place.
Now I knew what he was hiding, and I had my chance to see whoever this person was for myself.
I crept over the bushes, keeping my body bent to the corners to avoid anyone who might be passing. Although this part of the mansion was quiet, it was still not devoid of a maid or guard around once in a while.
I had to be quick or else someone might end up noticing my absence. I was already playing it close with the timing. Sabrina would soon be searching for me, likely for another undue makeover that would stress me to the bone.
As I reached closer to the door I heard a low cough behind me that made me freeze in my tracks.
Swiftly I turned around ready with excuses at the tip of my tongue.
To my surprise I didn’t see Caleb or Jacob or anyone who I migh explain myself to there. Instead it was Master Killian. standing by a pillar close to the bushes I had just exited.
“Master Killian…” I made to speak but paused. What was I going to say?
Thinking of it now…
His arrival was a tad too suspicious wasn’t it?
My eyes narrowed on his tall, fit frame.
“Daria. what a surprise seeing you here. I was searching for a bird.” he began with a small smile. I swallowed nervously.
Could I believe him?
It sounded like a poor excuse if anything.
“A bird?” I asked with obvious disbelief.
“I have a hobby of bird watching. I saw a sparrow that might have flown in here without thinking.”
“Master Killian, it’s nighttime,” I said, having heard enough. “If there’s sparrows by this time then I would be a fool.”
He fell silent and then he sighed heavily.
“You’re right.” He raised his hand to rake through his perfectly coiffed hair. For the first time I saw something similar to pain and frustration written on his face.
“So, what are you here for?” I demanded, my suspicions activated “Are you following me or-”
“Daria, please. Don’t think that of me Tell you the truth I’m searching for someone.”
He held a complicated expression that I knew he had to be telling the truth. Because despite his strange behaviour my instincts were telling me he was still worth trusting
Someone, he said. But it must have been someone important

Chapter 70
A light bulb clicked on in my head.
Immediately my suspicions gave way to contemplation.
He had said his mate had gone missing a while ago, hadn’t he? ill recalled the conversations and then I had a clue.
“Your mate? You think he’s here? In the pack?”
Killian relaxed, as if he had seen that I wasn’t going to yell or call guards.
“Yes. In fact I believe he is closer now than before. I can feel it,” placed his hand against his chest, his voice full of
emotion.
1 I looked away from him and glanced at the door. The same doo that Caleb had just exited minutes before.
Did it mean that… that same intruder that threatened me was the very one that was Killian’s mate?
It felt like the rug was being pulled out from under my feet. I wasn’t sure I wanted to open the door anymore..
Yet Killian persisted and moved closer to me, looking confused by my reaction.
“What is it?” He asked, reaching out a hand to grasp mine but I pulled it away before he could touch me.
“Nothing. Let’s just go inside and see who it is,” I said with a small voice. If it turned out that I was going to get trapped I wasn’t going alone.
Silently I thought of a plan while we approached the door.
Surely Caleb wouldn’t have kept a man so dangerous in this kind of splendour, would he?
But all the doubts had no precedence over reality.
I took the last step and grabbed the doorknob, twisting it.
I don’t know what else I expected.
Nothing.
It was locked.
Somehow it didn’t make me feel relieved. I became even more nervous, and my body began to tremble.
Suddenly Killian growled out, cursing under his breath.
“I’ll do this myself.”
Pushing me firmly out of the way he grabbed the door knob, before giving a firm kick to the door. The door was quite strong, made with the finest mahogany. But it was no match for werewolf strength. After a few more kicks in which I began looking over my shoulder feeling suspense building up the do finally gave way, Killian held the door, preventing it from hitting the wall and creating more noise.
“Fuck, a strange male voice sounded from inside the room. I snapped my head up to see the man rush forward, not to me. bur to Killian Killian didn’t dodge or attack and simply wrapped) arms around the smaller man
I missed you” the man said in a low voice.
It was true then.
Killian’s mate was this person, whoever he was. The stranger that had been at my window and had gotten arrested

Chapter 70
I glanced around the guest room, seeing a small knife on a plate with an apple core. Swiftly I grabbed the knife and pom it at the both of them, heart pounding.
Killian noticed my movements and immediately pushed the other man back and stood in front.
“Daria, please. Put the knife down,” Killian’s voice was as gentle ever, a warm blanket on a cold winter’s day. But I shook my head repeatedly. Now wasn’t the time to give into what my instincts were telling me.
Meanwhile the other man tried to push forward but Killian won’t let him.
“Killian, let me talk to her. She needs to know who I am-”
“I know who you are. You’re the one who wrote me that note before, right?” I tightened my grip on the knife, aiming to set a foot out of the door before I could drop it.
“That’s not what you think, Daria,” the man spoke loudly, nearly rowling. “I was only trying to keep you safe.”
“Keep me safe?!” I yelled now, not caring that anyone else would hear us. “From what?!”
“From your father. From everyone who could ever hurt you. Daa please, you have to trust me- alright?!”
Look, I’m your cousin,
That…
What?
My mind struggled to comprehend those words.
Cousin?
I had no other family but my father.
That was what I’d known all my life.
“He’s right. Daria,” Killian’s voice broke through my thoughts. “He’s related to you by blood.”
“I don’t have any other family,” I whispered. This couldn’t be rea
“You have us. You have me, Daria. I’m Eric Nolan. Your mother’s name was Iris Nolan. She died because of your father. She was my father’s older sister. You have to believe me, Daria. I speak only the truth,” he insisted.
I breathed heavily, my heart pounding.
It was true.
I had never known my mother. Ever since I was young I had only known she died at such a young age, and I felt survivors guilt for living while she had gone.
But what I didn’t know was her name until the one time I managed to sneak around Alpha Kingston’s study while he was out on a week long trip.
That was when I’d seen a letter, withered and discarded. And I’d arnt my mother’s name for the first time
Iris
Her name was Iris Nolan
