I knew I had walked right into a metaphorical war zone but did care.

My cars had caught the tail end of what looked like a terrible arment between the two women my mind was currently occupied with.My brows raised as I gazed between Felicia and Daria.
My jaw clenched, I wondered how much Felicia wanted to angerne today to pull a stunt.
“Baby,” her sickly sweet tone sent shivers down my spine. I didn know what had made me want her in the first place. Though she had a wonderful body and fucking perfect skill, herttitude was anything but attractive at times.
Then I watched as she turned to glare at Daria. My mate only held a scornful yet stoic look. As though nothing could touch her.
A part of me longed to pull her into my arms, to make her see sense and convince her to spend the night in my bedroom again like before…
I stopped myself and turned to glance at Felicia again. She was speaking in strident tones as though she had been dealt a great blow.
“She tried to attack me. If I weren’t quick enough, I would have been injured! Caleb, do something-”
I cut her off with a narrowed glance, “Mind your words, Felicia. And I believe you should know how to address me.”
Silence.
A brief but subtle shift in her expression told me she understood what I was saying. More than that she could tell that I was anything but impressed.
Her game was up. At least for now.
Felicia huffed and folded her arms looking pitiful.
“You’re only going to defend her just because she managed to return?”
“I will defend her because she is my mate. And no one comes above her but me. If anything she has more of a right to be in this house than you, Felicia.”
A scoff rang in the corridor and I turned towards the source of the sound.
Daria stood, a fiery glare that could burn down the iciest forests on her face. Her lips were curled into a small smile that was as bitter as wormwood.
“I am no longer your mate Alpha Caleb. Please spare me the therics, both of you, I am only an outsider here to do my job and heal the Elder. And as far as my stay is concerned,” she paus for effect and shot a searing look at Felicia. “You don’t have to worry about your dear Alpha OR me getting involved with him. I have nothing to do with you or him. And when my work here is done I’ll leave the same way I came.”
Hearing those words sent my wolf spiraling. I clenched my hand tightly and stared at her unseeing.
She doesn’t mean that. She couldn’t.
Those were the words I told myself as every urge in my body seamed at me to remind her who she belonged to…
But the spell was broken as she turned and walked away from the scene. I stared at her back with rising fury coloring the

edges of my vision.
“Look at her. Acting so proud just because we need her skills.” Fecia sneered.
That immediately made me crack. A growl low and warning lefty lips and she froze like a deer in headlights.

“Look at you, Felicia.” I sneered, my eyes raking over her, “You ignored my orders and still expect me to come to your defense? Who the fuck do you think you are?”
“B-but-1”
Without warning I signaled the guards who were standing nearby
The entire day had given me a headache. From Daria’s confusing behavior to Felicia’s refusal to listen to a fucking word I said. I longed to rip the throat out of whatever being had dealt this hand to me.
“Yes Alpha.” The guards bowed low to me out of respect tinged with intimidation. I towered over them and pointed a finger at Felicia.
“Take her out of the mansion. Make sure she sets not one foot in here today. In fact she is banned from the mansion as of now until I say so.” My words were cold and commanding.
Felicia responded immediately with a resounding screech that left her lips.”What are you trying to do? I haven’t done anything! Caleb!”
She struggled against the guards who held her arms firm.”Consider this a punishment for disobeying my orders before.” I replied without a hint of emotion in my voice. “And this time make sure you do as I ask. Or else whatever care I once showed for you can easily be forgotten.”
She yelled out as she was dragged away from my presence. Her laws were out and extended. Yet she couldn’t harm anyone. Her strength wasn’t much more than a little boy’s compared to the mountainous skills of the guards.
“Fucking hell,” I muttered under my breath and sighed heavily. Raising my hand up to pinch my nose briefly, I thought of Daria’s former maid. Sabrina was her name.
I needed to speak with her. She seemed close enough to my mate that she could provide an insight into what had truly happened years ago.
And if she refused to?
I strode towards the study after passing orders for the maid to be brought to me.
The afternoon was slowly morphing into evening before my eyes. Today was one of the busier days but I still had a lot of pending work to overcome.
“You sent for me, Alpha?”
Sabrina bowed towards me and I raised my head from the written report by a patrol team to glance at her. Her gaze farted about the study.
I knew she had likely never been in here much; her involvement with me personally was entirely nil
She must have an idea of why I was calling her.
“You were the Luna’s personal maid, correct?
My question garnered a nod from her. Then I saw it. A flash of axiousness in her eyes that betrayed what she had done

“I know your words from years ago, when she had disappeared, were a lie. Because you knew exactly what had happened to her. “I didn’t bother asking. Sabrina’s face paled slightly.
“Yes alpha,” she murmured after a few seconds. Her tone spoke of something other than fear. It spoke of anger and defiance. A sharp contrast from her submissive and respectful appearance.
“Why?”
“Because…” she hesitated.
“You will not be punished for speaking the truth,” I said lowering my voice to a softer tone.
