Chase Me Alpha (Daria and Caleb) novel Chapter 71

Chapter 71

Caleb’s POV

B55 vou

I suspected it the moment that I entered the party at the meeting hall and didn’t see her.

Not everyone was there yet. The party had just begun after all. t most of the delegates were already there and they approached me like last night to greet me.

Meanwhile my eyes searched around for Daria. If she wasn’t he then did that mean she was still at the mansion?

It didn’t take much to connect the dots.

Jacob was just walking arm in arm with Sabrina by the time I’d decided to go back to check on Daria.

“Hey, where are you off to?” Jacob asked, his expression slightly curious.

“I forgot something,” I replied without another glance at him “I’ be back soon.”

Then I set off on a light jog back to the mansion. I took the back and narrow paths to avoid anyone. This was just going to be a check in and that was it.

Of course, it turned out that Daria wasn’t even in her bedroom. After a couple of knocks, I had opened the door only to see an empty bed and a room devoid of anyone.

That was when I truly knew. She must have followed me back then.

Cursing under my breath I wondered why she couldn’t just be patient with me and wait a little

I had promised her she would eventually get to see that man after all.

Upon reaching the guest bedroom at the northern suite, I didn’t expect to also find a delegate here. The respected Master Killian, also in the middle of it all.

Daria took a step forward, almost protectively over master Killian and Eric Nolan.

“Alpha Caleb,” she called my name as if I were a stranger to her instead of her mate. “I can explain.”

“I don’t need you to explain Daria. I want to know what’s going on-” I demanded and she cut me off with an accusing glare

“You kept things secret from me. That’s why I had to do this. Welle you going to tell me that he was my cousin? Or was I going to have to wait until you approved before I could find out?

I cursed inwardly, struggling to find the right words to say. How as it that she managed to get things so twisted?

“Don’t fucking turn things around on me, love. I was only trying to protect you,” I growled, glaring over her shoulder at Killian and Eric.

Daria however didn’t look convinced and opened her mouth toll at me some more. I expected it of course. However what I didn’t expect was for one of the two men to step in.

“He’s right,” Master Killian was the one to speak. “I’m sure AlphaCaleb needed to do his investigations to make sure Eric way telling the truth. It’s just a simple matter, Daria.”

I loathed how easily he explained it. As if to make me feel even worse, she turned to him, before nodding slowly

“And it’s not like Alpha Caleb kept me in the cell. He had me take out days ago, and I’ve been treated quite well by most Standards. You don’t have to be so upset with him Eric too was got going to keep silent it seemed Darta relaxed and

glanced at the two men behind her before sighing and shaking head.

I felt like I was watching Daria being chastised by her two older others.

For the first time I wondered what it was that made her trust then so easily and not me.

What was it that was the problem with her taking me back if she could easily accept her cousin?

“Master Killian,” I changed the subject and regarded him with slight confusion. “I hadn’t expected you to be involved with this.”

He smiled ruefully and took the lightly worded message in strid Just what I expected from a seasoned warrior like him. I had heard tales of his skills on the battlefield, and his elusive perfonality.

“I have a vested interest considering my mate is her family,” he plied. I glanced between the two men and I realized what he was saying quickly.

Ah.

So they were mates.

That explained why I’d never known master Killian to take on a lover.

To dispel any awkwardness, I nodded and decided it was best to brush over it.

It didn’t matter to me whether or not either of them were gay. It only mattered that my territory was being affected by their

actions

“That still makes me ask you why you had to go through such means instead of simply coming to me directly, Master Killian,” I stated.

Daria looked at me as if I had just said something wrong but I couldn’t figure out for the life of me what she was angry

about.

“You’re right. But I also represent the Crimson Pack,” Killian responded. “And we have a bone to pick with the Red Vale Pack just as much as any other pack in the region.”

1 tilted my head, consideringly. Was Killian trying to suggest an alliance?

If he was, it would be very beneficial to my pack. The Crimson ck was known for never getting involved in quarrels with other neighboring packs.

Despite the skills of their warriors unmatched except with the Wisteria Pack, they had never been the type to favour battles over diplomacy.

“Very well,” I said noncommittally. “I believe these details can be discussed tomorrow after the parties are over”

“Then there shouldn’t be a need to keep Eric’s presence hidden hould there?” Daria spoke up, glancing at me from the side

She was making another request.

Ignoring the slight annoyance I felt again at the show of her support for a cousin she had Ily just met I nodded.

“He can be taken in as part of Master Killian’s retinue, if that’s what he wants”

Goddess knew I wanted to see him leave as soon as possible too

“Actually Eric suddenly said I would like to stay here in the pack for a while. At least until the threat of the Red Vale pack is handled

He glanced at Master Killian who had an unreadable expression had a feeling the two of them were going to be engaged in a long talk.

This wasn’t the time for such.

“We can discuss all of this later. Not now,” I emphasized and turned to Daria. “Your presence is expected at the party.”

Daria’s gaze was full of surprise and she slowly nodded.

Once I was sure there was nothing else to say, I stormed out.

I could hardly hold in my anger. Various mixed emotions filled he; I was happy that Daria had found her family, but it came at the cost of her trust in me. And worse, she seemed to trust them a lot more than she trusted me – her mate.

I felt like punching something, and yet I had to hide all of what felt and host a party that now I had lost interest in

Gathering the last bit of patience I had I decided to return to the meeting hall.

But as soon as I stepped in, I was run into firmly by a familiar female figure. The nauseating perfume made my nose wrinkle and I let out a low growl.

“Alpha Caleb,” Felicia’s voice was like nails on a chalkboard as usual. She wore a halter neck dress that was so low cut that it showed her belly button piercing.

I glared at her as she fanned her face as if pretending to be flushed.

“Get out of my fucking sight, Felicia.” I didn’t hold back in my snarl and shoved her aside. I had never laid a hand on a woman but by the goddess, she was going to be the first if she wasn’t careful.

Shoving her aside, I moved quickly to my seat at the high table. Jacob was already started to my right with Sabrina by his side and he gave me a curious glance as he saw me sit hurriedly.

“Man you look like you need a breather. You okay?” Jacob muttered to me, and I nodded, gritting my teeth as I saw the guards successfully intercept Felicia from even coming closer to the high table.

She glanced my way more than a few times and each time her gaze got darker and darker. Then she finally gave up and moved to sit at one of the other large tables that was set for the occasion.

I suspected her antics weren’t over at this gathering and I called a guard discreetly.

“Make sure Lady Felicia is watched at all times. If she tries anything, report back to me immediately.”

“Yes Alpha.”

I dismissed the guard, half listening to everyone around me. But in an instant my focus became fixed entirely on the red- haired woman that had just entered the hall, wearing an elegant old gown that shimmered in the light.

Daria

Pride filled me at the thought that this was my mate. She was not only beautiful but held a grace that no one could compare

LO

“I think you should stop drooling. Pretty sure even the moon goddess is rolling her eyes at you right now,” Jacob muttered from beside me and I glared at him briefly in warning before thing back to see her

That was when a loud scream echoed through the hall
