The clearing where we agreed to met was silent. The morning sun streamed in through the gap in the trees and shine down on the clearing painting it warmly.

As soon as we arrived, I called to my men.

“Spread out.”

With the prevalence of rogues in the area, it was our primary objective to be cautious.

I moved towards the hill at the edge of the clearing, my ears pricked as I didn’t see hair nor hide of Alpha Townsend or his men.

It was a little surprising; from what I’ve come to know of the man he was quite punctual, no matter where we had to meet.

My eyes weee fixed on our surroundings. I cast a 360degree look, unable to shake a strange feeling in my body.

It was a tension that I couldn’t quite get over. And it was weighing down on me, my heart pumping a little bit faster, my eyes fixed on the darkest corners of the forest as far as my eyes could see.

Something was wrong.

I trusted my instincts, and after five more minutes of waiting, the sensation grew stronger.

Quietly I signaled to three of the men who were closest to me and wordlessly gestured forward. We moved in perfect synchronization.

The air was silent, thick and waiting.

Suddenly a low growl echoed in front of us.

And another. And another. All from different wolves.

My men instantly went on the hunt, and I shifted, letting my already tense muscles morph into my wolf’s much stronger ones. We didn’t move back- we ran in the direction of the growls.

And right on time too.

For the scene that we met was equally gruesome and terrifying.

Rogue wolves surrounded a brown furred wolf I recognized as Alpha Townsend, and two other wolves that flanked him.

The rogues outnumbered them 5 to 1, and no matter how strong they were it would be impossible to leave there without getting hurt.

I let out a loud growl, and jumped into the arena.

My men followed, and we began to battle.

We charged, blocked, clawed at the throats of the rogues. It was anger that remained at the forefront of my turbulent roil of emotions until the last rogue went down. Alpha Townsend and I worked side by side to the

end.

Some more rogues dove in from all corners, trying to corner us. But I was faster.

Each blow I aimed was to take them down. To kill, not just injure.

As their numbers dwindled, a few of them tried to run.

I immediately went on the chase, along with several warriors. Easily, we caught them.

‘Alpha Caleb, we’ll need some of them alive,’ Aloha Townsend’s voice echoed through the forest. I growled, barely holding back the fury I felt. But he was right. We needed them alive for interrogation.

Forcing the three we had caught to their knees i delivered a blow to their neck, targeting specific pressure points. Their thrashing and struggling instantly ceased, and they flopped to the ground, unconscious. They began to shift back to their human forms, a process that was slower due to their unconscious state.

Once they were tied up in chains, we returned to the clearing, meeting Alpha Townsend who had just shifted back to his human forms.

He tossed something at me which I caught with my teeth, as gently as I could.

It was, as I suspected, fabric. Clothes to change into.

Bowing my head in silent gratitude i moved to shift and change behind a few trees. Then I emerged, meeting the other Alpha’s gaze.

“My apologies for arriving late,” Alpha Townsend said as I took my seat across from him. He looked a little exhausted, shoulders slumped and chest still heaving.

His dry humor was enough to break the tension by a large degree.

“How did they find you?” I demanded.

“The rogues? I suspect they were tailing us from the beginning. No doubt about that,” he shook his head. “We found some spies that were at our borders.”

I frowned.

“Again?”

“The previous ones were gotten rid of. But they keep coming back, Alpha Caleb. This isn’t just a small rogue group. This must be a massive team. Likely in the thousands.”

My chest rumbled with a low growl.
