Chapter 32 A Total Disaster

If Matthew had told the truth today-if he’d just opened his mouth-Charlotte wouldn’t
have had to carry such a massive blame.
But of course, Matthew chose silence.
Charlotte knew why.
He was wary of Lillian.
Right now, Russell family businesses were managed by Matthew, but what Lillian held
in her hands wasn’t just the largest share of Power Tech. She also owned other assets
outright.
Assets she’d originally intended to leave entirely to John.
Outsiders would never know this, but the one Lillian loved most was her younger
grandson-John.
As for why… it was probably because of the pain and hatred inside Lillian, something
she’d never been able to erase in her lifetime.
Matthew knew Lillian favored his little brother, and he didn’t really complain about it.
But lately, he didn’t know what had changed. He’d started to feel some disgust toward
Lillian’s iron-fisted control.
Still, Matthew was good at hiding his emotions.
His respect and obedience toward Lillian had more to do with the Russell family’s
wealth.
After all, no one picks a fight with money.
So when Lillian questioned him today-why he hadn’t rushed back immediately-
Matthew just tossed out a casual line.
“I had to stay with her until she finished what she needed to do.”
That one sentence made Charlotte suffer.
Everyone decided it must’ve been Charlotte, deliberately stopping Matthew from coming

And with Natalie’s made-up lies on top of it, Charlotte’s “crime” was basically confirmed.
Charlotte wasn’t about to swallow that blame for free.
“Matt, you’re my husband. In this family, you’re the only person I can rely on. But now I
finally understand… you never intended to be that person for me. Because just like Grandma said, you only married me on impulse back then.”
Good thing she’d already completely given up on this man.
Otherwise, saying those words might’ve actually made her cry.
Charlotte said it on purpose. She just wanted to test whether she could stir even a sliver
of guilt in Matthew.
She didn’t expect the result to be even better than she imagined.
Matthew said, “Next week’s charity auction. Tell me which one you like, and I’ll bid on it
and give it to you.”
At dawn, Charlotte woke up thirsty.
When she opened the door to get water, she ran into the nanny who’d been taking care
of Isabella.
The nanny was muttering under her breath, full of resentment.
Charlotte stopped her.
The nanny
forced a smile. “Eldest Young Madam, do you need something?”
Charlotte tested her little by little.
“You’ve worked hard. You’re still up in the middle of the night.”
The nanny blurted out, “The baby’s been making a huge fuss. How could I sleep? And on
top of that, and Second Young Madam…”
She realized she’d spoken too fast and cut herself off.
Charlotte smiled slightly. “I know my sister-in-law has a temper, and she’s picky about
daily life too. It’s inevitable you’d be wronged sometimes. I’ll apologize to you on her
behalf.”

The nanny looked shocked.
“Eldest Young Madam, you’re too polite. I’m just a nanny. It’s normal to suffer a little.”
Charlotte said, “Even servants deserve proper respect. There’s no such thing as ‘you should suffer.””
The nanny felt moved. “Eldest Young Madam, you’re truly a good person.”
Charlotte patted her arm. “When this is over, I’ll give you an extra bonus. Consider it compensation for what you’ve had to put up with.”
The nanny was even more grateful.
“Thank you, Eldest Young Madam. Thank you.”
Charlotte said, “Go ahead with your work. Take good care of the baby. He’s seriously ill
right now-you can’t be careless.”
The nanny complained, “What serious illness? It’s just that the day before yesterday, the
Second Young Madam used a body lotion on him and he had an allergic reaction. It’s not a big deal. It’ll clear up in a few days. Who knew she’d suddenly start wailing and making a scene, panicking and insisting on going to the hospital.”
“Earlier she was even scared the old madam and the others would find out and blame
her for being careless, so she deliberately hid it.”
“So you mean the baby isn’t sick at all, and the rash is just from that allergy two days
ago?”
“Yeah. At the hospital, they all knew.”
Charlotte’s dark eyes flickered. “When you say ‘they,’ do you mean Matt too?”
The nanny said, “Oh, no. He happened to step out to take a call then. He didn’t know.”
Charlotte honestly didn’t know whether she should feel sorry for Matthew.
So that was what it was.
Those women in the Russell family had kept Matthew in the dark and joined forces to
help the mistress vent her anger.
Isabella pulling this stunt had only two goals.

First, she wasn’t willing to accept it, so she wanted to stop Matthew from going through
the property transfer with Charlotte.
Second, she wanted to test whether Matthew cared about her and the child-whether
he’d rush back at the first moment.
In the end, it was a total disaster.
No wonder when Isabella walked in today, the way she looked at Charlotte wasn’t the
same as usual.
There was something extra in it.
Something called hatred.
If that was the case, then Charlotte didn’t mind making the mistress hate her even more.
Charlotte asked, “Is the diagnosis report still around?”
The nanny liked Charlotte a lot, so she told her the truth. “It was thrown away a long time ago. They probably didn’t want Matt to see it.”
Guilt rose in the nanny’s face.
“Eldest Young Madam, actually, I wanted to speak up for you today, but you know… I…”
Charlotte understood.
What right did a nanny have to speak up?
“It’s fine. Just you telling me all this is more than enough. Don’t worry-our chat won’t
affect you in any way.”
The nanny finally left at ease.
Charlotte went back to her room and slept peacefully.
The next morning, as soon as she woke up, she called Ruby.
Charlotte told her the whole story from start to finish.
Ruby was so furious her teeth practically ground together.
“That hellhole-you need to leave it as soon as possible. Every extra day you stay is one more day they get to torture you.”

Charlotte smiled like it didn’t matter. “They disgust me, and I disgust them. Mutual
hatred, that’s all.”
Ruby said, “I swear, your mindset isn’t something normal people can pull off. Okay.
Leave it to me. I’ll get it handled for you today.”
After the call ended, Charlotte instinctively started to walk out.
Then she remembered-she was basically in confinement. She wasn’t even supposed to
