Chapter 107 Tears in Neon

There had been a crash on the road leading to the hotel, and traffic had been backed up for over thirty

minutes.

When Chase noticed Julian leaving, he quickly ushered the professors toward the elevator.

The lobby gradually quieted down. Soon, only the Whitman family and a few curious bystanders remained.

Ethan stood beside Lydia, supporting her carefully. His gaze followed Quinn’s departing figure until she completely disappeared from sight, and only then did he slowly look away.

Harold finally exhaled a long breath. Then he turned toward his wife.

“Lydia, we’ve been together for decades. What happened tonight doesn’t have to turn into something—”

A loud smack cut him off.

The sound echoed sharply through the lobby.

Before Harold could finish speaking, Lydia had already slapped him

Her eyes were cold.

“You make me sick,” she said.

She didn’t wait for another word. She turned and walked away.

across the face.

Ethan glanced at his father briefly, his expression unreadable. He said nothing and hurried after his mother.

Harold remained standing there, one hand covering his cheek. His expression was complicated, as if a dozen conflicting emotions were fighting behind his eyes.

This was never how he imagined things ending. The truth was painfully simple.

He had wanted everything.

He wanted the excitement and attention he found outside his marriage, but he also wanted to preserve the image of a respectable family man. He wanted the stability of his home while continuing to pretend that his marriage was still perfect.

Tonight had shattered that illusion.

Harold stood there for a while longer before finally turning and leaving.

The small crowd that had gathered slowly dispersed.

Outside the hotel, Quinn stepped down the stone stairs toward the curb.

The moment she reached the sidewalk, she suddenly turned around and pulled Lucy into a tight embrace.

All the emotions she had forced down earlier came rushing back.

Everything she had endured tonight broke loose all at once.

Lucy wrapped her arms around her immediately and gently rubbed her back.

“It’s okay.” Lucy said softly. “You’re okay now. I’ve got you.”

At that moment, Julian walked out of the hotel entrance. The scene in front of him stopped him in his tracks.

Under the glow of the neon lights outside the building, the two women stood close together, holding each other.

Both of them were strikingly beautiful in completely different ways.

It might have looked like a scene from a movie.

Except Quinn was crying.

Her head tilted slightly as she leaned against Lucy’s shoulder. One side of her face happened to be turned toward Julian.

From where he stood, he could clearly see the tears slipping from her eyes.

Her long eyelashes were damp, catching the colorful reflections of the neon lights and shimmering faintly.

Lucy kept patting her back until Quinn’s breathing finally slowed.

Then Lucy gently pushed her back a little and held Quinn’s face between her hands, wiping away the tears carefully.

Julian felt a sharp tug in his chest.

His brows had already drawn together.

Before he could speak, Lucy leaned forward on her toes and pressed a quick kiss to Quinn’s forehead.

“Lucy.”

The voice cut through the night air.

Lucy froze instantly. She turned around so fast she almost lost her balance. Her hands were still cupping Quinn’s face.

Julian walked toward them with long, steady strides.

“I’ll drive you home,” he said.

Lucy could easily tell that Julian was in a terrible mood. Her tone immediately turned cautious.

“Um… I drove here tonight.”

“I’ll have someone bring your car back,” Julian replied calmly, though the finality in his voice made it clear the discussion was over. “Get in my car.”

Lucy had been emotional all evening. Julian had no intention of letting her get behind the wheel like that.

And more importantly, if those two ended up alone in the same car, he had no idea what Lucy might try

next.

Lucy turned to Quinn.

“Quinn, how about we ride with Julian tonight?”

Quinn didn’t answer right away. Her thick eyelashes lowered and lifted slowly.

“Okay,” she said quietly.

At that moment, she only wanted to get as far away from this place as possible.

Lucy held her hand and guided her toward the car.

After Quinn slid into the back seat, Lucy was about to climb in beside her when Julian’s voice came from behind.

“Front seat.”

Lucy paused instantly.

She didn’t dare argue. Without a single word of protest, she shut the rear door and walked around to the passenger side.

Quinn lifted her eyes quickly.

For a brief moment, there was clear panic in her gaze. Julian noticed it immediately.

He sighed quietly, then reached over and closed the rear door for her.

Turning to the driver, he said, “Go pick up Lucy’s car.”

The driver understood at once.

Julian clearly intended to drive himself.

The driver quickly opened the driver’s door for him. After Julian sat down, the driver closed the door respectfully and left.

Only when Quinn saw Julian settle into the driver’s seat did the tension in her shoulders finally ease a little.

For a moment earlier, she had genuinely thought Julian might sit beside her in the back.

The luxury sedan had plenty of space.

But for Quinn, sharing the back seat with a man still felt uncomfortably close. And Julian carried an

overwhelming presence.

She could easily imagine how it would feel if he sat next to her.

His quiet but powerful aura filling the entire space around her.

Just imagining it made her uneasy. Thankfully, he chose to drive.

What she couldn’t understand, however, was why he had insisted Lucy sit in the front.

Quinn didn’t know the reason. Lucy, however, had a pretty good idea.

The look Julian had given her earlier practically screamed that he wanted to smack her upside the head.

He saw me kiss Quinn, and he couldn’t even do it himself. No wonder he’s jealous. So petty.

Lucy complained silently in her head, though her face remained perfectly innocent.

Instead, she leaned toward Julian with a cheerful smile.

“Hey, how did you show up so fast tonight? And how did you even find out about Harold’s affair?”

“I was nearby meeting someone to sign a contract,” Julian said calmly.

As for Harold’s affair…

When Julian learned that Veronica had introduced Quinn to work with Harold, he had someone quietly run a background check on the man.

Harold might have been able to hide things from most people.

But he couldn’t hide anything from Julian.

That investigation revealed something interesting. Harold had been keeping a young actress on the side for five years.

Julian wasn’t sure whether Lydia knew about it. Among wealthy couples, situations like that weren’t unusual.

Many spouses simply pretended not to notice.
