Chapter 138 The Morning After
Her phone suddenly rang.
Quinn quickly answered, “Lucy? Where are you?”
Lucy had clearly just woken up too. Her voice sounded sleepy.
“I’m still at the club.” Lucy said. “Where are you, Quinn?”
“I’m outside already,” Quinn replied. “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine.” Lucy shook her head as she sat up in bed. “Where did you end up sleeping last night? Are you feeling alright?”
“I’m fine,” Quinn said quickly.
She didn’t dare linger nearby. The last thing she wanted right now was running into Julian again.
“Lucy, I’ve got something to take care of, so I’m heading out first.”
“Okay,” Lucy replied. “We’ll talk later.”
Quinn called a rideshare and went straight back to campus.
Her advisor had arranged a single dorm room for her. The room was small but clean, quiet, and comfortable.
As soon as she got back, she took a long shower.
Then she collapsed onto the bed.
Even now, she still couldn’t process what she had done the night before.
The embarrassment kept replaying in her mind. She clenched her teeth and groaned into the pillow, fighting the sudden urge to scream or bury her face and pretend she could disappear from the world.
Why did I even decide to drink?
She had drunk alcohol before and always ended up just falling asleep quietly.
So why did I completely lose control last night? Who was that reckless, shameless version of me? Was I possessed or something? Why else would I throw myself into Julian’s arms, grab his abs, call him a bad guy, and even start rambling about how amazing his abs looked?
The more Quinn thought about it, the more unbearable the embarrassment became.
She buried her face under the pillow and kicked her legs wildly against the mattress.
The worst part was that she had even noticed the reaction in Julian’s body.
And she had said something about it too.

Ahhhh!
She absolutely could not think about that again.
Right then and there, Quinn made a firm vow. For the rest of her life, she would never see Julian again. Unfortunately, life rarely followed someone’s personal plans.
It didn’t take long before Quinn ran into Julian again. For Quinn, New Year’s Eve had ended in complete chaos.
New Year’s Day should have been a warm family holiday in most households, but things were tense in the Sterling family.
The divorce situation had ruined the mood entirely.
Quinn even received a call from Charles. She didn’t want to answer it.
But considering he was an elder, she eventually picked up.
Unexpectedly, the person speaking wasn’t Charles.
It was Chase. Quinn had already blocked his number, and Chase didn’t know where she lived.
Whenever he tried calling from unfamiliar numbers, Quinn simply declined the calls.
That morning he had gone home for the holiday and suddenly realized he could use Charles’s phone to reach her.
Before making the call, Charles had noticed the anger on his face and frowned.
“Watch your tone,” Charles said. “Since Quinn didn’t cheat after all, most of the blame falls on you. Apologize properly, understand?”
Before they discovered the truth, they had all believed Quinn was the one in the wrong.
Now that the misunderstanding was cleared up, Chase’s actions looked far worse.
The only option left was to lower their pride, admit the mistake, and persuade Quinn to come back.
Chase smiled casually. “Don’t worry, Dad. I’ll handle it.”
He took the phone and dialed. As soon as the call connected, he said bluntly, “Quinn, I talked to Maddox.”
Quinn paused in surprise.
Before she could respond, Chase’s angry voice exploded through the phone. “He never touched you. Nothing happened between you two. Quinn, was messing with me fun?”
Quinn finally understood what he meant.
“Chase,” she asked slowly, “you thought I asked for a divorce because Maddox hurt me?”

“Wasn’t that the reason? You felt humiliated and thought I betrayed you, so you wanted a divorce.”
Quinn almost laughed from sheer disbelief.
“Whether someone hurt me or not isn’t the point,” she said calmly. “What destroyed my trust was your decision. The moment you even considered doing that, Chase, I was already disappointed in you.”
“But the truth is nothing happened to you,” Chase argued. “Think about it like this. If I thought about killing someone but never actually did it, would I still deserve the death penalty?”
“You’re twisting the argument,” Quinn replied. “If you planned to kill someone and actually tried, the only reason they survived would be luck. If you had another chance, you would still do it. Chase, stop trying to justify it. I’m completely done with this.”
“But you weren’t harmed,” he insisted. “So how can you claim I hurt you?”
Quinn no longer had the patience to continue. A man like this simply disgusted her.
“Let’s stop talking,” she said. “We’ll settle this in court.”
“Fine,” Chase said smugly. “Do you think I’m afraid? Your parents already agreed to testify for me. When the time comes, who do you think the judge will believe, you or your own parents?”
“Chase, that’s disgusting.”
“I already told you I’m not agreeing to a divorce,” he said arrogantly. “Even if we do divorce, it’ll happen when I say it does. Quinn, what makes you think you get to decide?”
Quinn was silent for a few seconds.
Then she asked quietly, “Don’t you want to be with the person you actually love? You like Rosalie. Are you really willing to watch her marry someone else?”
