Chapter 140 An Awkward Reunion

“Alright, here’s what we can do,” Quinn said calmly. “Do you know anyone who manages the club? Maybe they could check the security footage to see where he went after leaving. Try not to panic. Jess is an adult. He can take care of himself.”
“I already asked Zeke.” Lucy replied. “Jess was drunk too, so he stayed at the club overnight. According to the cameras, he left early this morning.”
“Then maybe something came up,” Quinn said, though she still felt uneasy. “Once he’s free, he’ll probably call us back.”
Lucy sighed.
“I guess we just have to wait. If I still can’t reach him later, I might call the police.”
“Maybe ask Zeke if he can help track down one of Jess’s family members first,” Quinn suggested. “Calling the police right away might be a little extreme.”
“Good point,” Lucy said. “I’ll ask Zeke.”
Then she asked, “By the way, Quinn, are you okay after last night? Which room did you sleep in?”
The moment Lucy asked that question, Quinn felt her face flush.
Unlike the blurry memories from that night on the yacht before, this time everything about getting drunk was painfully clear in her mind.
And remembering it made her want to disappear. Lucy absolutely could not find out about what had happened.
“I’m not sure,” Quinn said quickly. “I didn’t really check the room number.”
Lucy nodded.
“Honestly, the only reason I felt comfortable drinking last night was because Julian and Zeke were there. I knew they’d look out for us. But Quinn, if you’re out without us next time, you really shouldn’t drink.”
Quinn raised her hand like she was making a solemn oath.
“Lucy, I swear I’m never drinking again. If I ever get drunk again, you can call me a pig. Deal?”
Lucy laughed. “Come on, a drink once in a while isn’t that big of a deal.”
“Nope. I’m done,” Quinn insisted. “Besides, drinking makes me feel awful. My head is still pounding.”
It was not actually physical discomfort she was worried about.
She was afraid that if she ever drank again, she might embarrass herself like that one more time.
And that would be the end of her.

“Alright. I’ll keep an eye on you,” Lucy said. “I’m going to call Zeke now and see if he can reach Jess’s family.”
After hanging up. Quinn tried calling Jess herself.
Still no answer. If Jess had been a woman, Quinn probably would have been even more worried. But since he was a guy, it felt slightly less alarming.
Even so, she could not stop imagining worst–case scenarios.
She sent Lucy a message: “Lucy, let me know the second you hear anything.”
Even though she had only met Jess twice, they had hit it off quickly.
And the very first time they met, Jess had helped her. She would always remember that kindness.
But by evening, there was still no word from him. Quinn began to worry more seriously and called Lucy.
“Quinn, I was just about to call you,” Lucy said. “Zeke found him. He’s at that bar we went to before. Do you want to come with me?”
“Of course.”
They hung up and headed there immediately. When they arrived, they discovered that Julian was there too, standing beside Zeke.
The moment Lucy saw him, her stomach dropped.
She walked over first, greeting Julian, then leaned toward Zeke and whispered, “I told you not to tell Julian about this. You couldn’t keep your mouth shut?”
Zeke shrugged.
“Anything involving you, I have to tell him. If something actually went wrong, I’d never hear the end of it.”
“What could possibly go wrong…” Lucy muttered.
Then she turned around and waved. “Quinn, come over here!”
Quinn was still standing a distance away.
She took a deep breath. Seeing Julian so suddenly had caught her completely off guard.
The moment Quinn noticed his familiar, handsome face, his broad shoulders, and the tall, effortless way he carried himself, her gaze instinctively dropped. And then the memory hit her, his abs, and everything
else.
Even in the freezing winter wind, a thin layer of sweat formed on her back as heat rushed to her cheeks and her heart began pounding so hard she could barely catch her breath.
She didn’t dare look at him again, and she certainly didn’t dare walk over. When Lucy noticed Quinn wasn’t moving, she simply walked over instead.

“Quinn, what’s wrong?”
Only with her back turned to Julian did Quinn finally speak.
“Lucy… you go in with them. I’ll wait outside.”

“Why?” Lucy asked, reaching out to touch her forehead. “Are you sick? It’s freezing out here and you’re sweating.”
Lucy looked past Quinn’s shoulder just as Julian began walking toward them.
She waved immediately.
“Julian! Quinn doesn’t look well. She’s sweating even though it’s freezing. Zeke and I will go check on Jess. Could you take Quinn to see Gunnar?”
Quinn panicked and tried to cover Lucy’s mouth.
Too late.
进
“What’s going on?”
A deep, magnetic voice sounded behind her.
Quinn spun around. Only then did she realize Julian had already walked up behind her.
They were standing very close. She instinctively stepped back.
Lucy was still anxious about Jess, but she was also worried about Quinn.
“Julian, take Quinn to Gunnar,” Lucy said quickly. “I’ll go find Jess.”
Before Quinn could protest, Lucy had already turned and run toward Zeke, leaving Quinn standing there in pure frustration.
