Chapter 155 Crash the Room
finshed
“So what is it.” Julian said, his tone flat and cold, like he already knew he wasn’t interested. “You need something?”
Zeke leaned back like he owned the place. “Relax. Can’t I just come by, grab a drink, catch up?”
“We’re not that close.” Julian said without hesitation. “So no.”
He had barely finished when there was a quick, almost polite knock, and then the door opened anyway.
Zeke glanced over and smirked. “Too late. They’re already here.”
Dylan’s fiancée walked in first, followed by Clara.
Dylan immediately stood up and went over, steering his fiancée off to the side. He moved fast, like he was trying to contain a situation before it got worse.
Clara, though, wasn’t someone he could redirect.
She walked straight toward Julian like that was the only reason she came.
Zeke gave her an easy smile. “Well, look at that. Didn’t expect to run into you here.”
Clara didn’t answer right away. Her eyes went straight to Julian before she even acknowledged Zeke. Then she said casually, “Not really a coincidence. I heard you guys were here, so I figured I’d stop by.”
Zeke caught that immediately. Yeah, she
Same for Julian.
From any guy’s perspective, Clara was pretty much the full package. Family, looks, body, education, the way she carried herself, she checked every box without trying too hard.
The kind of woman guys bragged about even getting a conversation with.
Too bad Julian had zero interest.
Seeing Julian wasn’t about to engage and not wanting things to go dead quiet, Zeke stepped in smoothly. “Guess we should feel honored then. Not every day you get a visit like this.”
Clara gave a soft laugh. “Oh come on, they already tease me enough. Now you too?”
Then she turned to Julian, her voice shifting just slightly softer. “Julian, what brought you out tonight? You’re kind of hard to catch these days.”
From the moment she walked in, Julian hadn’t looked at her once.
Not even now.
It was like she was talking to air.
Zeke quickly filled the gap. “He’s been out of it all night, just stuck in his own head.”

He nudged Julian lightly. “Hey, Clara’s talking to you.”
Julian shot him a brief, annoyed look, then finally glanced at Clara. “Yeah?”
It wasn’t warm. It wasn’t welcoming. It was just acknowledgment.
Clara held her smile steady. “I was just asking what you’ve been up to. Haven’t seen you around.”
“Work,” Julian said, short and final.
That was it. Conversation over.
Finished
Clara wasn’t used to that. She and Julian barely knew each other, mostly because she never really had the chance to get close before.
There were always plenty of men around her, but Julian stood out even among them.
If she had to choose someone
marry,
she wasn’t going to settle.
She would pick the best.
And she had always been the one people gravitated toward. Men tried, constantly, to get her attention, to keep her talking, to find reasons to stay near her.
Julian did the opposite. He shut things down without even trying.
Clara wasn’t someone who chased.
But Julian made her want to.
“What are you drinking,” she asked, stepping a little closer, tilting her head just enough to feel natural. “Can I try it?”
A light trace of perfume drifted over.
It was understated, refined, the kind of scent that spoke of quiet luxury without trying too hard, and before he even had time to think about it, Julian felt his reaction hit, immediate and unmistakable.
He frowned, stood up, and moved to the other side of Zeke without a word.
Clara’s expression froze for a split second before she forced it back into place.
No one had ever shut her down like that in public.
Zeke jumped in fast, laughing it off. “He’s in a mood tonight, don’t take it personally. Clara, what do you want, I’ll drink with you.”
“I actually don’t drink,” Clara said, pressing her lips together briefly before smiling again. “I don’t trust myself with it. Imagine getting home drunk, that wouldn’t go over well.”
Zeke chuckled. “Your grandpa would really give you a hard time? I doubt it. You’re his favorite.” “He spoils me, sure,” she said, her tone gentle but deliberate. “But he also raised me right. There are

standards I’m expected to keep.”
Zeke caught the undertone.
It wasn’t just a casual comment.
Finished
But they weren’t close enough for him to call it out, so he just shrugged it off. “Different times now. No reason to box yourself in. Guys don’t get that kind of scrutiny anymore.”
“Maybe,” Clara said lightly. “But I still think knowing your boundaries matters.”
That one didn’t land clean.
Zeke smiled, but didn’t respond.
It felt like she was hinting at something, just not saying it outright.
Julian, meanwhile, didn’t react at all. Not even a glance.
Right when things were starting to feel strained, Dylan came back with his fiancée.
The two women sat together, leaning in, whispering like they had their own conversation going.
Zeke shot Dylan a look that clearly said, “Fix this.”
Dylan just gave a helpless shrug. Nothing he could do.
After that, no one tried to force anything.
Zeke and Dylan talked about random stuff, looping Julian in now and then. Julian barely responded.
He seemed somewhere else entirely.
After a couple more drinks, he leaned back, resting his arm over his forehead, eyes closed like he was trying to shut everything out.
That was when his phone rang.
He picked it up, his voice low and steady. “Lucy.”
