Back then, it had only taken a few words from Rosalie for him to marry Quinn, a decision he barely questioned at the time. After the marriage, he kept his distance, convincing himself it was some kind of loyalty to Rosalie, as if that made his actions meaningful.

Rosalie, still assuming she could guide the conversation back under control, softened her voice again. “Chase, I respect men who know when to let go.”

Chase let out a breath, his tone turning almost desperate. “Fine. I can do that. If I let go, will you be with me? Will you give me a chance?”

Chase immediately pushed back. “I act on impulse? Then what about marrying Quinn? Wasn’t that your idea?”

Chase’s face tightened instantly. “I thought it was you in there. And I wasn’t trying to watch anything, I just wanted to talk-”

Rosalie cut him off before he could finish. “You can say whatever you want, but you don’t even realize it yourself. The person you actually cared about all along was her.”

She didn’t stop there.

She started listing moments, small things from years ago, details he had never paid attention to at the time.
