Chapter 259 Rushing for You
“I already had someone drop off a meal for her.” Julian said.
Quinn let out a small sigh of relief. “Good to hear. I’ll remember to text you next time, I promise.”
“Really?” Julian’s voice lifted with hope.
“I mean it.”

Julian sounded thoroughly pleased. “Head home and get some rest once you arrive. You can sleep in tomorrow. I’ll come pick you and Lucy around eleven.”
“Okay.”
Julian went on. “How was the restaurant tonight? If you liked it, we can go there sometime.”
Quinn answered honestly, “It wasn’t good. Not at all.”
The place was actually quite fancy. It was a welcome–home dinner for Rosalie, after all–Victor and Elaine would never skimp on her. But Quinn had sat there watching the three of them act like a warm, loving family. She’d had no appetite at all, let alone the mood to enjoy fancy food.
When Julian asked, a wave of sadness washed over her.
“If it weren’t good, we wouldn’t go back,” Julian said softly. “I’ll take you somewhere you’ll really love.”
Quinn’s throat tightened, and she let out a quiet hum in response.
“Are you tired?” he asked.
“Not really.”
Julian’s voice grew even gentler. “I don’t know what to do. I still want to see you.”
Something inside Quinn’s chest fluttered violently. She squeezed her phone in one hand, her fingers on the other curling up slightly. That familiar, overwhelming rush of butterflies hit her again.
How did every casual sentence from Julian make her lose her composure so easily? Truth was, she wanted to see him too. But he was still at the office, probably exhausted from a long day of work.
“It’s pretty late,” she said. “We’ll see each other tomorrow anyway.”
“It’s not that late. And you said you aren’t tired. Can’t we meet for a little while?”
Quinn could hear a faint, almost pitiful tone in his voice. Her heart melted instantly.
“…Okay,” she agreed.
By the time Quinn’s taxi pulled up to her building, Julian hadn’t arrived yet.
“It’s cold out here,” he told her. “Go inside. I’ll text you when I’m there.”

Quinn agreed, then quickly added, “Don’t rush. Drive carefully.”
The second she said it, she remembered Julian rarely drove himself. A soft, quiet laugh came through the phone, and he said, “Alright.”
Quinn felt her cheeks warm up again. She didn’t go upstairs. If she did, Lucy would definitely tease her nonstop once she came back down. It was a bit chilly, but she was wearing a thick coat, so she paced back and forth on the sidewalk.
Her mind was racing with all kinds of thoughts. From the way Rosalie talked at dinner, she’d probably bring her boyfriend home soon. Whoever he was, he must be someone impressive to make Victor and Elaine so happy.
Then there was the design competition. The entry date had been pushed to after the holiday, which gave her more time to prepare. And Chase had been acting strange lately. He’d gotten a new phone number and had been messaging her every single day, begging for her forgiveness.
Quinn was lost in thought when she looked up at the sky. The city night was gray and dull, with no stars in sight. Suddenly, a deep, smooth voice called her name.
“Quinn.”
She spun around quickly. Julian was standing just a few feet behind her. He wore a black cashmere coat, tall and elegant, with an air of quiet confidence about him.
“You got here so fast,” Quinn said in surprise.
It had only been about ten minutes since he said he was coming. She knew the drive from his–office normally took more than twenty minutes.
Julian explained, “There wasn’t much traffic at night, and I hit every green light. Guess even the sky’s on my side since I’m so eager to see you.”
He really did have a way with sweet, sincere words. Quinn tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear and asked a silly question, “Have you eaten yet?”
It was already past nine o’clock. There was no way he hadn’t had dinner.
