Chapter 393 A Missed Meeting
Her complexion wasglowing soft and pink, the kind of look that came from being loved and cared for.
She snapped back to her senses, quickly smoothed her hair, and straightened her clothes.
She was in no way ready to meet Julian’s parents.
Deep down, she lacked the confidence that came with having a stable, loving family.
It wasn’t about money.
It was about character, integrity, and upbringing.
Even if her adoptive parents had been street vendors or street cleaners, as long as they were kind, Quinn could hold her head high.
But Elaine and Victor, along with Rosalie, were deeply flawed people.
What would she say if Julian’s parents asked about her family?
What if they wanted to meet the Lane family?
What would she do then?
If they saw how terrible those people really were, how could she ever face Julian’s parents again?
Quinn took a deep breath and stepped out of the lounge.
Her heart was pounding as she wondered how to act around Julian’s mother.
She wasn’t good with words, wasn’t charming, and worried she might come off as unlikable. What if his mother disliked her immediately?
She gathered all her courage and opened the door.
She knew Julian wanted her to meet his family.
She didn’t want to let him down.
But when she stepped into the office, it was empty.
Where is everyone?
She stood there confused when the office door opened again.
Her heart skipped a beat She looked up and saw Julian

mom?
“I sent her home.”
Quinn let out a huge sigh of relief, but then protested, “Why did you… I said I wanted to meet her.”
“It’s not the right time,” Julian said. “She showed up out of nowhere, gave you no time to prepare. That was
on her.”
“It’s not that…” Quinn hurried to say. “I should have paid her and your father a visit properly.”
“We’ll set a date and go over together. She just really wanted to meet you.”
“Will she be upset?”
“A little, but it’s fine. She knows she dropped by unexpectedly.”
Quinn wrapped her arms around him and buried her face in his chest. “Your mom came all this way, and you sent her away. And I slept for so long… what will she think of me?”
Julian laughed and lifted her into his arms. “Don’t worry. My mom’s very easygoing. Besides, I’m the one who wore you out. If anyone’s to blame, it’s me.”
Back when Claire Sterling was still there, she had been a little annoyed.
She’d come all this way, and her own son wouldn’t even let her meet his wife-to-be.
“Quit calling her that,” Julian said. “You’re putting too much pressure on her. She hasn’t said yes to my proposal yet.”
“You’re so hopeless!” Claire rolled her eyes at him. Do you even know how to date? Want me to teach you a few things?”
Julian smiled. “We’re fine. No need.”
Claire had clearly noticed the change in her son.
He’d always been responsible and steady, almost too much so.
He’d had no youthful energy or joy,
With no women around him, Claire had even wondered at one point if he was interested in men.
But once she heard he had a girlfriend, she could see the happiness in his eyes every time he came home.
He tried not to show it, but she was his mother-she knew him better than anyone,
She’d grown incredibly curious about this girl.
What kind of person could have changed him so
much?
She really couldn’t wait any longer, so she’d rushed over without planning ahead.

“Mom, that’s not what this is. Julian wasn’t about to admit he’d been intimate with Quinn earlier. “I’d never let her get pregnant before marriage. She just didn’t sleep well last night, so she napped longer this afternoon.”
“Not sleeping well? Insomnia?” Claire said. “I can have Arthur take a look at her-
“It’s nothing like that.” Julian massaged his temples, a little exasperated, “Mom, just leave it alone.”
Claire finally put it together. Young couple, alone together at night…

He frowned. “Just go home, Mom. When she and I have planned it, we’ll come see you and Dad.”
Claire had no choice but to leave.
On her way back, she called Lucy.
“Aunt Claire?” Lucy was surprised. “Why are you calling me?”
Claire spoke warmly, “Lucy, where are you? Can we meet up? I have a few things to ask you.”
Lucy quickly agreed. “Sure! I’m free right now.”
