Chapter 426 Different Standpoints Clash

She decided to cherish every moment spent with her birth parents from then on. She chose to leave all past sorrows behind and start her life brand new.

“I’m hungry,” Quinn said with a smile, tears still glistening in her eyes. “What delicious food did you make for me. Mom and Dad?”

Xenia hurried over to her bedside. “Try this. Your dad’s cooking tastes amazing.”

Mark nodded in agreement. “Tell me if you like it. I’ll cook more of it next time. If there’s anything you don’t fancy, I’ll adjust the recipe right away.”

Julian set up the folding dining tray over the hospital bed.

“I can get out of bed to eat,” Quinn offered.

“You need plenty of rest and less movement,” Mark insisted gently. “Just have your meal right here.”

In the end, Mark, Xenia and Julian all stood by the bed, watching Quinn eat quietly. Mixed feelings of heartache, joy and hopeful expectation filled the couple’s eyes.

Quinn took a bite of the dish and brightened up at once. “It tastes wonderful.”

Mark broke into a warm smile. “Eat more then.”

“I’m glad you love it,” Xenia chimed in. “Just tell your dad whatever you want to eat. He’s really good at cooking.”

Julian spoke up beside them, “I’m pretty skilled at cooking too.”

Mark shot him a glance and said nothing in reply.

Xenia suddenly came to her senses. “Oh right, haven’t you had dinner yet, Julian? Come and eat with us.”

They had been so focused on Quinn that they had completely forgotten about him.

“I’m fine,” Julian declined softly. “I can finish whatever Quinn can’t eat later.”

A faint sense of jealousy welled up inside Mark. Before learning Quinn was his daughter, he had never minded how close she was to Julian. Now that he knew the truth, every little thing Julian did irritated him.

From the files he had gone through, he knew many things had led to Quinn’s divorce from Chase, and he suspected Julian had played a big part in it. Though he understood powerful men like Julian might resort to special means to win someone’s heart, Mark still thought such moves were improper.

Julian was sharp enough to sense the obvious hostility coming from Mark. He felt confused at first, but soon figured out the reason. If he had a daughter who leaned more on her boyfriend than on her own family, he would feel upset too.

The thought even made him resolve that if he and Quinn ever had kids in the future, he would prefer having sons rather than daughters, for raising a daughter meant endless worry and heartache.

Xenia stared at Quinn eating without taking her eyes off her, growing fonder of her daughter by the second. She kept picking tasty food onto Quinn’s plate nonstop.

Mark turned toward Julian. Come outside for a moment. I need to talk to you.”

Julian followed him out of the ward. Now that he confirmed Mark was Quinn’s biological father, his

attitude softened a little.

Once they stood in the corridor, Julian took the initiative to speak, “What do you want to talk about, Mr. Jinn?”

Mark raised an eyebrow. “You still call me Mr. Jinn?”

Julian paused briefly. “We aren’t married yet, so it feels too early for me to call you Mark.”

Mark nearly lost his temper. “Are you that certain Quinn will end up marrying you?”

“Of course I am,” Julian replied calmly. “Our relationship is deep and solid beyond doubt. Do you have any doubts about that?”

“Back then, what really caused her divorce?” Mark asked directly. “Don’t tell me it was all Chase’s fault for cheating. I know you had a hand in it.”

Julian looked quite surprised. “You suspect me instead of Chase?”

“Chase and Quinn grew up together. They should have had deep feelings for each other.”

“You’re totally wrong,” Julian corrected him. “Chase has always had feelings for her adoptive elder sister. He never truly loved Quinn at all. You can ask Quinn about all this yourself if you don’t believe me.”

“I won’t bring it up to her,” Mark refused. “Those are painful memories for her. I won’t make her relive them.”

“So you’d rather wrongly accuse me?” Julian frowned. “If Quinn and Chase had truly loved each other, I would never step in and ruin their marriage.”

“I’ll choose to believe you for now,” Mark said. “Once Quinn is discharged from hospital, I’m taking her back to Voss City with me.”

“I’m afraid you can’t make that decision for her,” Julian retorted. “It all depends on whether she’s willing to go with you.”

“I’m her father,” Mark stated firmly. “Now that we’ve reunited, she naturally ought to come home with me.” “Yed “You may be her birth father, and what happened in the past was never your fault,” Julian said steadily. you never fulfilled a single father’s duty to her for over twenty years. You can’t just take her away as you please now.”

“Quinn will choose to come with me,” Mark insisted.

“If you pressure her emotionally, she will agree just to spare your feelings. But do you have the heart to see her sad when we have to separate?”
