Chapter 63 Different Rules
“Didn’t you used to have a girlfriend?” Julian asked.

“We broke up a long time ago,” Zeke replied. “She went overseas for graduate school and dumped me without a second thought. You clearly don’t pay enough attention to your friends. I’ve been single for ages.”
“You never tried dating anyone else because you couldn’t get over her?”
“That’s not it,” Zeke said. “I just haven’t met the right person. I’m not the type who settles just to avoid being alone.”
“And when she broke up with you, you didn’t feel miserable?”
“It wasn’t that bad,” Zeke answered casually. “When we first got together, it wasn’t exactly some grand love story anyway. We both got what we wanted out of it.”
Julian looked at him. “So you can be with someone even if you’re not really in love, just because of physical attraction?”
Seeing the serious look on Julian’s face, Zeke could not help laughing.
“Julian, we grew up together. Ever since we were kids, you’ve always been better than me at pretty much everything. School, business, even cooking. If you decide to do something, you always end up doing it better than anyone else. I used to think you were unstoppable, like there was nothing you couldn’t handle. Now I’m starting to realize that might not be true.”
Julian raised an eyebrow. “What do you mean?”
“When it comes to relationships, you’re completely clueless. At least when it comes to dating, I’ve got way more experience than you.”
Julian seemed to think of something, and the corner of his mouth lifted slightly.
Zeke continued, “Since I turned eighteen, I’ve had three girlfriends. What about you? Other people might not know, but I definitely do. You’re still a virgin, right?”
Julian glanced at him calmly. “What, do you get a medal for sleeping with women? Is that supposed to be impressive?”
Zeke burst out laughing.
When he finally calmed down, he said, “It’s not about impressing anyone. It’s about enjoying life. That feeling when you’re with someone like that… trust me, it’s the kind of thing you can’t really explain with
words.”
Julian suddenly remembered the kiss on the yacht.
Her lips had been pressed against his, their breaths tangled together as if the world around them had disappeared.
Before he kissed her, he had struggled with himself, torn between restraint and desire.

In the end, the pull he felt toward her was stronger than the self–control he had always lived by.
The moment his lips touched hers, Julian felt something deep inside him tremble. He did not know if the kind of enjoyment Zeke was talking about felt like that.
If it did, then what he experienced had only been the faintest taste of it.
A single kiss had nearly pushed him completely out of control.
He could not even imagine what it would feel like if he truly had her in his arms.
“What kind of expression is that?” Zeke looked at him curiously. “Wait a second. Don’t tell me you two actually slept together?”
Julian shot him a cold look.
Zeke immediately realized he had said the wrong thing. “Alright, alright, that one’s on me. But the look on your face just now was like someone replaying the best moment of their life. Fine, I’ll drop it.”
Julian said quietly, “I’m not like you. If I’m going to do something like that, it will only be with someone I truly care about.”
Zeke rolled his eyes. “Come on. When I slept with someone, I liked her too, alright? Feelings just change sometimes. That’s not exactly something I can control.”
He continued, “Besides, I’ve got more money than I know what to do with. What’s wrong with dating a few women? Compared to Maddox, I’m basically a saint. Honestly, it’s you who’s the strange one.”
Strange?
Julian thought about the uncontrollable impulse that had surged through him that night and the way desire had taken over his restraint.
He knew there was nothing abnormal about him.
The truth was simply that the only person capable of making him lose control was Quinn.
Zeke had originally planned to grab dinner with him, but a phone call came in and he had to leave early.
Later that night, he called Julian again. “Come out and grab a drink.”
Julian was in the middle of working out. He wiped the sweat from his forehead and said, “Not tonight.”
“I just ran into Quinn.”
Julian froze for a moment before responding immediately. “Send me the address.”
The sudden change in his attitude made Zeke laugh so hard he nearly dropped his phone.
Julian remained expressionless and let him laugh.
At the same time, a trace of concern surfaced in his mind.

Is she feeling better already? Shouldn’t she still be resting at home? Why would she go out tonight?
Zeke had run into Quinn completely by accident.
He had originally planned to meet Julian for dinner, but something urgent came up and delayed him. By the time he finished handling it, he was starving.
Instead of driving all the way to his usual restaurant, he simply picked a place nearby.
That was how he ended up spotting Quinn.
Earlier that day, after Quinn left the courthouse, Veronica had driven her to Lucy’s apartment and told her to get some rest.
After saying goodbye, Quinn sent Lucy a message asking when she would be home.
Lucy replied that she was stuck working late and probably would not make it back anytime soon.
Around nine that night, Quinn received another message from Lucy saying she had been drinking at a restaurant and asking Quinn to come pick her up.
Worried about her, Quinn headed there immediately.
In Quinn’s eyes, Lucy had always been simple and carefree, almost like a kid who never quite grew up.
They had studied the same major in college, but after graduation Lucy chose to work as a sales representative for a clothing manufacturer.
Lucy liked to joke that she wanted to learn the fashion business from the ground up.
Whether she had actually mastered anything yet, Quinn had no idea, but she knew Lucy’s job involved constant overtime and frequent business trips.
The work was exhausting.
Quinn had been surprised that Lucy managed to stick with it for
so
long.
Situations like tonight, where Lucy had to drink with clients during business dinners, probably were not unusual.
What Quinn could not quite understand was why Lucy would choose such a demanding job at all.
Lucy came from a wealthy family and had always been pampered growing up.
Why would she put herself through a job that treated people like overworked corporate drones?
