Chapter 69 A Strange Accusation

“It’s fine.” Quinn said with an easy smile. “If I end up moving out, I’ll just find a place close to you. we can still hang out all the time.”

Lucy sighed, clearly reluctant but realizing she could not argue forever.

“Alright.” she said. “But I’m calling Seven first. I want to know why he suddenly decided to give me a house out of nowhere.”

The moment she finished speaking, her phone rang.

Lucy glanced at the screen. “Speak of the devil. It’s Veronica.”

She answered the call. “Hey. Veronica.”

Veronica’s voice came through the phone immediately.

“Did you drink too much last night? I told you before, when you’re out you should go easy on alcohol. You’re a young woman, you need to watch out for your safety.”

Lucy laughed it off.

“I’m fine! Quinn came to pick me up

“Oh? Is Quinn awake now?”

“Yeah, she’s up. She even brought me breakfast.”

Veronica paused, then said, “Go into the bathroom for a minute. I need to ask you something.”

Lucy blinked.

Veronica added calmly, “You probably don’t want Quinn hearing this.”

Lucy was confused, but she stood up obediently.

She turned toward Quinn. “Quinn, I’m going to freshen up for a minute.”

Quinn waved her off without thinking much about it.

“Go ahead.”

Lucy walked into the bathroom, closed the door, and leaned against the sink.

“Alright, what’s going on?” she asked. “Why so mysterious?”

“I’m going to ask you something,” Veronica said. “And I want the truth.”

“Okay?”

“Do you have someone you like right now?”

Lucy frowned.

“No.”

“Be honest with me. Is there someone or not?”

“There really isn’t,” Lucy said, sounding wronged. “Why don’t you believe me? When have I ever lied to you?”

Veronica took a breath.

“Fine. I’ll stop beating around the bush. Just answer one question. Are you interested in men, or are you interested in women?”

Lucy froze. “Wait… what?”

“Don’t play dumb,” Veronica said sharply. “If you’re not honest with me, then from now on don’t come asking me for help with anything. I won’t get involved.”

Lucy nearly burst into tears.

“What are you talking about? What do you mean interested in men or women? If we’re talking about dating, of course I like men. As for friends, I have both male and female friends.”

“So when it comes to dating, you like men,” Veronica said. “In other words, your sexual orientation is normal?”

Lucy rubbed her forehead in disbelief.

“Veronica, what are you even saying? Since when has my orientation been anything but normal?”

“Someone told me otherwise.”

Lucy’s temper flared instantly. “Who said that? Who’s spreading rumors about me?”

“Julian,” Veronica replied calmly. “He said he saw it with his own eyes.”

Lucy went completely silent. The truth was that Lucy rarely got drunk.

At home, her family hardly allowed her to drink. At work events, even if alcohol was served, she always kept herself under control.

A woman losing consciousness from drinking too much could easily end up in trouble.

But last night Quinn had been with her.

That was why Lucy had relaxed her guard and allowed herself to drink more than usual.

She vaguely remembered that Julian had shown up and driven them home.

But the details of what happened in between were a blur. So how had Julian suddenly concluded that her

sexual orientation was “not normal“?

Calling Julian directly to question him felt terrifying,

Lucy walked out of the bathroom and immediately went to Quinn.

“Quinn, Seven drove us home last night, right?”

Quinn nodded. “Yeah.”

“From the time he picked us up to when he left, nothing weird happened, right?”

Quinn looked confused. “No. Why would you ask that?”

Lucy suddenly looked completely deflated, like all the energy had drained out of her. She had always respected Julian and, deep down, had hoped to earn his approval someday. Now he apparently thought something was wrong with her, and the worst part was that she had no idea what she had done to give him that impression.

She groaned.

“Seven told Veronica there’s something weird about my sexuality. I swear I’ve never been so wrongfully accused in my life. Where did he even get that idea?”

Quinn paused in the middle of handing her breakfast.

“What? He said your orientation is strange?”

“Yeah! Out of nowhere! I respect people who are in same sex relationships, but that’s not me.”

Quinn suddenly remembered a moment from the car last night.

Could it have something to do with that?

But she was not completely sure.

Lucy had tried to slide her hands under Quinn’s clothes while joking around. But could that alone make someone assume her orientation was different?

That seemed like a stretch.

Julian did not seem like the kind of person who jumped to conclusions like that.

Quinn thought for a moment.

“Why don’t you call him and ask directly? Maybe it’s just a misunderstanding. Once you talk it out, everything will be clear.”

Lucy looked uneasy.

“I’m kind of scared to call him,” she admitted. “You can tell, right? I’m a little intimidated by him. Seven is so strict, and his presence is intense. Every time I see him, I feel like a nervous kid.”

Honestly, I feel the same way.

“When we were in his car last night, the way you were messing around with me might have given him the wrong impression.”

Lucy’s eyes widened. “What did I do?”

“You always joke around with me like that,” Quinn said awkwardly. “Even when you’re drunk, you try to stick your hands under my shirt and keep saying you want to grab me. Maybe he saw that and misunderstood.”

Lucy stared at her in shock. “No way. You’re telling me he assumed my orientation was wrong because of that?”

“I’m not sure.” Quinn said honestly. “That’s why you should call him and ask. You can’t just let him keep thinking that.”

Lucy suddenly had no appetite for breakfast at all.

After hesitating for a long moment, she finally clenched her fists. “Alright,” she said. “I’m calling him.”
