Chapter 73 Flowers at the Door

Quinn lowered her head quickly. “I’m fine.”

“You’re obviously not,” Lucy said, frowning. “Your cold probably isn’t completely gone yet. Stop cleaning and go sit down.”

She guided Quinn to the couch before Quinn could protest. “Did you take the medicine Gunnar gave you?”

“I did.”

“Good.” Lucy nodded, then kept talking. “Anyway, focus on getting that divorce first. Once you’re officially done with that jerk, you can think about everything else. But wait, if you’re making clothes for Seven, don’t you need to take his measurements first?”

Quinn froze.

“Oh.” The thought hit her all at once. “Right…”

“That part is kind of important.” Lucy said seriously. “To be honest, Seven is extremely picky about his clothes. The people who usually make his suits come from families that have been doing it for generations. But you’re amazing too, Quinn. Still, the measurements have to be perfect.”

Quinn imagined standing close to Julian, measuring his shoulders, his chest, his arms.

Her heart immediately started racing.

After a moment she said carefully, “Lucy, could you help me with that? Maybe you could take his measurements for me.”

“No problem for me,” Lucy said easily. “But why don’t you just do it yourself? Sometimes having the exact numbers helps a lot when you’re designing.”

“Well… I’m not really close with him,” Quinn said, grabbing the first excuse she could think of. “So just help

me out.”

“Sure.” Lucy waved it off. “When the time comes I’ll do it. Or I could just ask Seven. His personal tailor probably already has all his measurements on file. Worst case, I’ll just ask him directly.”

Quinn let out a quiet breath of relief. “Okay.”

They were still talking when the doorbell rang.

“Who is it?” Lucy muttered as she got up and walked toward the entryway.

Before opening the door, she glanced at the security monitor by the wall. The moment she saw the screen, her temper shot up.

She turned and called out loudly, “Quinn, that scumbag is here!”

“Chase?” Quinn frowned. “What is he doing here?”

“Who knows?” Lucy scoffed. “That idiot is standing out there with a bouquet of flowers. Does he seriously think a couple flowers will make you forgive him?”

“Just ignore him,” Quinn said calmly. “I don’t want to see him.”

“Alright,” Lucy said, then suddenly brightened. “Or I could go out there and punch him.”

Quinn laughed. “You really think you could beat him in a fight?”

Lucy put her hands on her hips. “Would he seriously hit a woman?”

She paused, then snorted.

“Actually, never mind. He’s a total jerk. Normal standards probably don’t apply to him. Forget it. If I slap him once and he hits me twice, I’m the one losing.”

Quinn couldn’t stop laughing. Lucy walked back over and plopped down beside her.

“Look at that, you’re finally smiling again,” she said happily. “See? You look so much better when you smile. Those little dimples are adorable. I almost want to kiss you.”

Before she could finish, the doorbell rang again. Then someone started knocking.

Lucy glanced toward the door. “So what do we do? Just wait until he gives up and leaves?”

Quinn said calmly, “If no one answers, he’ll leave eventually. He’s never had much patience. That’s how he is with everything.”

Lucy rolled her eyes. “That jerk makes me angry. Still, thank God he never actually slept with you. Sleeping with a guy like that would make anyone sick just thinking about it afterward.”

Quinn felt the same way.

She didn’t have some rigid obsession with firsts, but who wouldn’t want their first time to be with someone they truly loved, and who loved them back?

Several minutes passed.

The doorbell was still ringing.

Then Quinn’s phone buzzed. She picked it up and saw a text from Chase.

Chase sent a message, “I know you’re inside. Open the door. Let’s talk.”

Lucy leaned closer. “What do we do? Should I call the cops?”

Quinn shook her head. “I’ll go out.”

“Don’t!” Lucy grabbed her arm. “What’s the point of talking to a guy like that?”

“But if I want the divorce,” Quinn said gently, “I still have to convince him. Otherwise it will drag on forever through court hearings.”

She gave Lucy a reassuring smile. “Don’t worry, I’ll just talk to him outside for a few minutes.”

Lucy hesitated, then nodded. “Fine. I’ll watch from the security camera. I won’t hear what you’re saying, but if he even tries to touch you, I’m running out there.”

Quinn reached out and smoothed Lucy’s hair.

“You don’t need to run out,” she said softly. “Just stay inside. If anything happens, call the police. Okay?”

Lucy nodded obediently. “Okay. Just talk to him calmly.”

Quinn walked to the door and opened it.

Chase smiled as soon as he saw her.

“Quinn, I knew you were home,” he said. “I came to apologize again today. These flowers and the gift are for you.”

Quinn didn’t reach for them.

“If you won’t agree to the divorce, I’ll file a lawsuit,” she said calmly. “If the first case doesn’t work, I’ll file again. Eventually everything you’ve done will come out in court. Are you really willing to let it get that far?”

Chase frowned.

“Quinn, things aren’t that serious between us. Why are you pushing this so hard? Can’t you give me one more chance?”

“What you did is already a crime,” Quinn said coldly. “Tell me something. Why would I stay with someone who hurt me like that?”
