Chapter 75 Unwanted Rival
Julian’s original plan had been simple. He wanted Quinn to move out as soon as possible.

At the time, that felt like the smartest solution. Keeping her under the same roof any longer seemed like it would only complicate things that were already messy enough.
What he had never anticipated was that before he could even sort out the other issues in his life, before he had the chance to seriously pursue Quinn the way he wanted to, his own cousin would somehow turn into a rival for her attention.
Later, when he realized the whole thing had been a misunderstanding, his attitude changed completely. Suddenly the last thing he wanted was for Quinn to move away.
Even so, there was still no way he could allow Quinn and Lucy to share a bed.
Lucy’s orientation was not the problem.
The real issue was her personality. Lucy had always been extremely affectionate in a very physical way. She hugged people, grabbed their arms, poked their cheeks, and commented openly about how nice it felt to touch them.
Julian had never paid much attention to that habit before.
However, hearing Lucy say things like “she’s so soft” or “wow, she feels amazing to hug” made something inside him tighten in a way he could not ignore.
For years Julian had believed that he possessed exceptional self discipline.
That belief lasted until the night on the yacht.
Only after that night did he realize something important.
Self control was not some permanent trait that always worked the same way. Whether it held up or collapsed depended entirely on the situation.
And when the situation involved Quinn, his self control seemed to disappear far too easily.
Lucy’s words echoed in his mind more than he cared to admit, describing someone soft, warm, and comfortable to hold.
The memory from the yacht kept resurfacing in his mind again and again.
Because of that, Julian spent a good portion of the night standing under freezing cold showers, trying to calm the restless energy in his body.
By the time morning arrived, he had managed to give himself a mild cold.
Fortunately it was nothing serious. His nose felt a little congested and his throat sounded slightly hoarse,
but that was about it.
After finishing work at the office around ten that night, he drove to Gunnar’s clinic,

In the past, if Julian had even the smallest health issue, Gunnar would usually come directly to him.
That was why Gunnar looked genuinely surprised when Julian walked through the door.
“What are you doing here?” Gunnar asked with raised eyebrows.
Julian’s voice sounded deeper than usual, with a faint rasp. “I’m feeling a little off.”
“Did you catch a cold?” Gunnar immediately motioned toward the couch. “Sit down for a second. Have you checked your temperature yet?”
Julian lowered himself onto the wooden sofa. His long legs stretched forward awkwardly, making the furniture look slightly too small for him.
Gunnar handed him a thermometer and waited.
The reading came back normal.
After examining his throat and listening to his breathing, Gunnar concluded that it was nothing more than a mild cold. He prescribed two types of medication and wrote them down.
Then he looked up again.
“So tell me something,” Gunnar said casually. “Did you just happen to be nearby, or did you come here specifically?”
“I had a question I wanted to ask you,” Julian replied.
Gunnar opened his mouth to respond, but just then movement appeared at the doorway.
Lucy poked her head inside after noticing the door had been left slightly open. “Gunnar!”
Gunnar smiled immediately. “Lucy, you made it. Where’s Quinn?”
Lucy pulled someone into the room behind her. “She’s right here.”
Then she suddenly noticed Julian sitting on the couch. Her eyes widened in surprise. “Wait, what? Why are you here, bro?”
Quinn lifted her gaze.
At that exact moment, Julian also looked up. Their eyes met briefly.
Why is he here? Is it just a coincidence?
Or something else entirely?
The previous day Lucy and Quinn had moved into the new apartment Julian arranged for them.
Before going to bed, Quinn had opened the window to let in some fresh air.
Unfortunately she forgot to close it.

Sometime in the middle of the night she woke up shivering from the cold.
When morning came, her head felt heavy and foggy.
As soon as she stepped out of the bedroom, Lucy noticed something was wrong. Lucy walked over and placed her hand on Quinn’s forehead.
“Oh wow, you’ve got a fever again!”
Without wasting another second. Lucy grabbed her coat and dragged Quinn straight to Gunnar’s clinic.
Quinn’s head still felt dizzy and slow.
By the time she realized what she was doing, she had already been staring at Julian for several seconds.
Embarrassed, she quickly lowered her gaze.
Lucy, however, was completely focused on Julian.
“So what’s the deal?” Lucy asked. “Why are you here?”
Julian had been looking at Quinn..
After a brief pause, he shifted his gaze away.
“I’m not feeling great,” he said calmly.
“Oh?” Lucy suddenly remembered the reason they came. She pulled Quinn forward. “Quinn’s got a fever too!”
Julian’s eyes immediately returned to Quinn.
Again?
That explained the pale color of her face. Even her reactions seemed a little slower than usual.
Gunnar walked over. “Julian’s fine. Just a mild chill.” He turned to Quinn, “But what happened with you this time?”
He placed a thermometer under Quinn’s tongue. A soft beep sounded a moment later.
The screen showed 102 degrees Fahrenheit.
Quinn spoke quietly. “I forgot to close the window last night and woke up freezing.”
Gunnar shook his head. “That’s impressive in the worst possible way. It’s cold outside and somehow both of you managed to get sick the same way.”
Lucy’s eyes widened. “Wait, seriously? Seven left his window open too?”
Earlier, when Gunnar asked Julian about his symptoms, Julian had casually mentioned something about a
cold draft.

He had not expected that explanation to match Quinn’s situation so perfectly.
The difference was that Quinn probably had actually forgotten to close her window.
Julian had not.
The real reason he caught a cold was standing right in front of him. Quinn.
Julian swallowed slowly. His voice became even deeper.
“Treat her first.”
Lucy immediately added, “Gunnar, maybe you should put Quinn on IV fluids for a few days. She hasn’t been sleeping well lately and she barely eats. Her body can’t keep going like this.”
Julian’s gaze shifted toward Quinn again. Even though Quinn avoided looking at him, she could still feel it. His presence felt strong and intense, almost impossible to ignore.
Quinn quietly stepped sideways and positioned herself behind Lucy. Lucy’s body blocked Julian’s direct line of sight.
Fortunately Gunnar worked quickly. He wrote the prescription and called a nurse to take Quinn to another room for the IV treatment.
Within minutes the office became quiet again.
Only Gunnar and Julian remained. “You’re still sitting there?” Gunnar asked.
He had watched Julian grow up and had worked closely with him for years. Their relationship had long evolved beyond a simple doctor patient arrangement.
Gunnar suddenly tapped his forehead.
“Right, I almost forgot. You said you wanted to ask me something.”
Julian did not bother hiding it. Gunnar already knew what had happened on the yacht.
“She avoids physical contact with men after what happened that night,” Julian said.
“That’s completely normal,” Gunnar replied calmly. “When someone goes through something like that, especially someone who’s emotionally sensitive, their instinct is to protect themselves.”
Julian nodded slightly.
“So how do we help her get better?”
Gunnar studied him carefully before asking, “If you don’t mind me asking, your concern for her…”
