Chapter 78 The Wrong Assumption
Quinn nodded. “Okay. Thank you, doctor.”
Gunnar had met Quinn twice now, and he felt Julian’s taste in women was truly impeccable.
Her beauty was only part of it.
The way she carried herself was what stood out.

She had a gentle, graceful demeanor, yet beneath it there was a quiet coolness that made her seem distant.
The combination sounded contradictory, but somehow it made her even more captivating.
The other day when Gunnar was leaving, he had seen her helping an elderly patient walk down the hallway.
It was clear she had a kind heart.
A man like Julian had seen every kind of woman imaginable.
Yet over the years, the only one he had treated differently was Quinn.
Gunnar trusted Julian’s judgment. “Both of you get some rest,” he said. “There’s no need to be so polite with me.”
After Gunnar left, the room was quiet again.
Only Quinn and Julian remained. Quinn felt puzzled. Where did Lucy go?
As if he could read her thoughts, Julian spoke, “Lucy had something to take care of. She’ll be back soon.”
Quinn nodded softly. “Okay.”
Julian could sense her tension and uneasiness. She clearly did not want to share a hospital room with him.
But she could not refuse, because he was Lucy’s cousin.
Julian suddenly remembered the moment Lucy had kissed her earlier.
He asked, “How long have you known Lucy?”
Quinn thought for a moment before answering, “We met during my freshman year in college. So it’s been about five years.”
Julian asked another question.
“Does she usually act that playful with you?”
Lucy had always had a childish streak and loved clinging to Quinn affectionately.
Before Quinn could respond, Julian spoke again.

“She’s been spoiled by our family. Sometimes she doesn’t understand boundaries. You don’t have to let her get away with everything.”
Hearing him criticize Lucy made Quinn instinctively defend her.
“Lucy is actually very considerate.”
“Considerate?” Julian frowned. “If you think that’s considerate, does that mean you’re comfortable with her crossing boundaries with you?”
Quinn looked completely confused. “Mr. Sterling, what exactly do you mean?”
Julian decided to be direct
“What I mean is that you shouldn’t let Lucy get that close to you. I saw her kiss you earlier. That kind of behavior is inappropriate.”
Quinn felt that someone like Julian must have very strict social boundaries.
The people around him were probably all from powerful and wealthy backgrounds.
So perhaps, in Julian’s eyes, Lucy should only be friends with people from similar social circles.
Maybe he believed someone like her, with a much more modest background and a pending divorce, was not suitable to be Lucy’s friend.
She stayed silent for a few seconds before speaking.
“Mr. Sterling, I don’t know what kind of person you think I am. But before Lucy and I became friends, I had no idea what her family background was. I became friends with her simply because I liked who she is as a person.”
Julian’s frown deepened. She said she liked Lucy.
“I would never try to get close to her because of her family,” Quinn continued. “I wouldn’t build a friendship based on that.”
Julian immediately understood what she had assumed.
“That’s not what I meant,” he said quickly.
Before he could finish, the hospital room door opened. Lucy rushed in, interrupting him.
I’m back! Quinn, how are you feeling now?”
Quinn smiled at her. “Much better. The fever has gone down a little.”
“That’s good.” Lucy then looked at Julian. “What about you? Feeling better?”
No. If anything, he felt even worse.
But with Lucy back in the room, it was not the right moment to continue the conversation.

Firushed
Julian said. “Go buy something for me.”
Lucy looked confused. “Buy what? You can just have the bodyguards get it.”
“I want you to go,” Julian said in a tone that left no room for argument. “You know that bakery on the west side of town?”
Lucy gasped. “That place is really far away!”
“They’re known for their desserts.” Julian said. “Get a few different kinds.”
“I just got back.” Lucy muttered under her breath, clearly unhappy, but she did not dare argue.
She turned to Quinn.
“Quinn, I’ll grab some desserts from there. Their pastries are amazing. You have to try them when I get back
After she left, the room fell silent once again.
Julian spoke, “You misunderstood what I said earlier.”
Quinn asked, “Then what did you mean, Mr. Sterling?”
“My point was, don’t…”
Julian suddenly realized he could not tell Quinn the truth.
It would scare her. The words reached his lips, but he changed them at the last second.
“What I meant was that Lucy shouldn’t behave in ways that cross basic social boundaries. I think it’s inappropriate. My frustration is with her behavior, not with you. In fact…”
Julian paused, choosing his words carefully before continuing.
“Lucy has good judgment when it comes to people. If she considers you her friend, then that tells me you’re someone exceptional. I’m also glad to see that the two of you share a genuine friendship without any hidden motives.”
After finishing, he asked her, “Does that make sense?”
Quinn nodded softly. “Yes.”
She had not intended to continue the conversation with Julian.
But now that the topic had reached this point, there was something she still wanted to clarify.
“So, she said carefully, “earlier you told me that you wanted me to move out soon and stop living with Lucy, but later you asked me to look after her…
