Chapter 80 A Rare Smile
“So you’re saying you don’t want to make it anymore?” Julian asked.
Something in his expression looked almost… disappointed.
Disappointed?
That seemed impossible.

Then Quinn suddenly remembered something Lucy had mentioned before about Julian’s surprising
contrasts.
It was not the contrast Lucy talked about with his wardrobe.
It was the expression on his face right now.
The difference between that look and the powerful man standing in front of her felt almost unreal.
Just looking at his build alone made the contrast obvious.
He was tall and solidly built.
His shoulders were broad, his waist lean and strong.
Even compared to the models Lucy sometimes showed her in short videos online, Julian’s physique looked better.
There was something about the way he carried himself, confident, commanding, and almost untouchable. It made it hard to believe that a man like him could ever look hurt, yet the message in his eyes was unmistakable, and Quinn knew she had not imagined it.
“You promised,” Julian said quietly, still watching her. “Even if I share some of the blame for what happened that day, I thought…”
“I didn’t take it back,” Quinn interrupted quickly. “If I promised something, I’ll follow through.”
She could not handle the way he was looking at her.
Having a man like Julian stare at her with that kind of vulnerable expression made her heart feel like it might short–circuit.
The word vulnerable suddenly crossed Quinn’s mind, though it seemed completely out of place when applied to Julian. She looked at him again, only to catch a faint smile on his lips, and the unexpected sight made her heart skip a beat.
Flustered, she quickly looked away, realizing it was the first time she had ever seen him smile. Until now, what had always defined Julian in her mind was the powerful presence he carried.
After that came the cool distance and the quiet seriousness he always carried.
He reminded her of a perfectly forged blade. Even when it remained sheathed, its sharpness could still be

felt.

Quinn had never really imagined what his smile might look like before. When it appeared, it was nothing like the restrained, polite kind where someone barely lifts the corners of their lips.
His smile was bright and open, the kind that showed genuine pleasure, and even his eyes softened as it spread across his face. In that moment, much of the cold sharpness that usually surrounded him seemed to fade away.
When he wasn’t smiling, Julian carried an air of distance and quiet authority, but when he did, the change was so striking that it felt as though the tension around him had suddenly lifted. Quinn felt her heart begin to pound faster.
It had nothing to do with romance.
She was simply stunned by how unfairly handsome he was.
How can someone already look that good and somehow look even better when he smiles?
The celebrities Lucy admired suddenly seemed unimpressive by comparison.
“Thank you.” Julian said. “That makes me happy.”
Quinn felt heat creeping up her cheeks.
“You’re welcome,” she said quietly. “It’s really nothing.”
She kept her eyes down, too embarrassed to look at him again.
Julian, on the other hand, watched her without much restraint. Gunnar had told him something important.
If he wanted Quinn to feel safe around him, he had to take it slow. Very slow.
Rushing things would only scare her away. Julian was not in a hurry.
After all, he had finally been given the chance to pursue the woman he wanted. Ironically, that opportunity had come from Chase himself.
Chase had practically pushed her straight into Julian’s path.
Once she finalized her divorce, Julian would be free to pursue her openly.
Until then, he wanted to slowly help her let go of the fear and resistance she carried inside.
The IV bag beside Julian’s bed was almost empty.
Lucy still had not returned when a nurse entered the room to remove the needle.
Quinn lay on her hospital bed feeling increasingly uncomfortable.
She needed to use the restroom. But Julian was still there.

Even after his IV was finished, he stayed in the room, leaning back casually against the bed beside hers.
He was not speaking, yet his presence filled the room so strongly it was impossible to ignore.
Why is Lucy taking so long?
If Lucy were here, the atmosphere would feel a little casier.
Right now the entire room seemed filled with Julian’s quiet authority, along with the faint scent of his cologne.
It was subtle. If she tried to focus on it, she could barely smell it.
But somehow it lingered in the air around her.
Quinn turned onto her side. A few seconds later she turned back again.
She really needed to go to the bathroom. The pressure was becoming uncomfortable.
“What’s wrong?” Julian asked, his deep voice suddenly breaking the silence.
Quinn hesitated.
Saying something so ordinary in front of a man who seemed so composed and refined felt strangely embarrassing.
But biology did not wait for dignity. She forced herself to sound casual.
“I’m fine,” she said. “I just need to use the restroom.”
“Alright.”
Julian did not ask anything else. He simply reached out to take the IV bottle connected to her line.
Quinn startled.
She hurried to get out of bed. But she moved too quickly. The moment her feet touched the floor, her head spun and her vision blurred.
Her body swayed dangerously.
She gasped as she started to fall. The impact she expected never came. A strong arm wrapped around her waist, steady and solid.
Heat radiated from Julian’s palm through the thin fabric of her clothes, sending a startled jolt through her
skin.
Before her mind could catch up, her body reacted instinctively.
Forgetting the IV line still attached to her hand, she lifted both hands and shoved against the firm chest right in front of her.
Julian had only been trying to keep her from falling.

His arm held her waist firmly.
When she pushed him, he was completely unprepared.
He staggered backward,
Yet his arm remained around her, still supporting her weight.
As he stepped back to regain his balance, Quinn’s body tilted with him, and she began falling in his direction as well.
